Hi all

Unfortunately due to some major life changes, the direction I need to take with my 30 has to change drastically.

Currently I'm lead in bed in a French hospital with a shattered D5 and 6, and it is looking like the chances of walking again are slim at best....

My car as it stands is a 92 alpine white touring with a m52b28 fitted. Which I have been planning a bare shell rebuild on for a while.

So, handcontrols I know are not an issue, but the idea of auto is! It's lead me to think, what about an s54 with an smg box? Could this be achievable? I'll have all the time in the world soon to start fiddling, but will this be way beyond the average diy mechanical, if even possible at all?

All input appreciated!

Sorry to hear that, one step at a time, sort yourself first. Best of luck.

I wouldn't write off a good auto box, the 5 speeds that came in E46's and E39's are fantastic and nothing like the old 80's tech the E30 came with.

SMG can be done with the S54 but its going to cost, lots of custom parts and brackets to be made etc, lots of wiring and faff

Thanks for the concern! I fell 20 meters off the side of an alpe on a cycling holiday....

Spirits are high, but the idea of living without my 30 is one I am not interested in!

It's super early days, looks like 6-12 months in hospital, but I'm just weighing up my options!

Auto seems the wise route but it just seems dull!

I love the idea of smg but it's starting the feel beyond my budget and skill set!

Maybe an lsx hmmm.....

Yes, there are S54 smg E30's out there, i'm in the middle of doing one atm too, its not rocket science, your best bet would be to start with a running smg donor car, sure its more work than the manual conversion but can be done for sure! a˜Ž

Someone (Ergen perhaps?), offered a drive in drive out conversion with SMG. Since you might not be able to walk I imagine that's what you are after?

Best of luck!

I'm lucky enough to have a workshop with a ramp, I'm not letting my disability get in the way of rebuilding my 30, it might just be a touch more awkward.

I'll get in touch with ergen, and see what they have to say!

Cheers for the input so far....
