Cheers Phil.
So it's fair to say, I've still not found that motivation for the E30 this year I was looking for. It's been taxed for a few months now and has probably only done about 20 miles, still got some pics taken though.

I have however got around to bolting on the BBS RS, though that didn't go as simply as expected. Due to the WMS brakes I've had to use 10mm spacers to clear the callipers, 8mm just about did it but I decided to play it safe and add the 2mm spacer I was alredy using with the Hartges.
Naturally I've used proper spacers;

They look awesome Dave, the car is absolutely perfect.
How come you're struggling with motivation, busy at work and home ??
She's a real gem

Cheers Jim, they do look awesome in the flesh, retro balloons FTW!
Not really sure to be honest, I think I've just lost a bit of enthusiasm towards cars in general this year, not touched the Golf for ages either. Any free time when the weather is nice I'd much rather be out on the motorbike. Need to get along to some meets/shows I reckon.

Oh my!
The rimmage!

Imagine how good they'd have looked of your Sport
Pictures really don't do them justice!

With using 10mm of spacers I am also using 40mm wheel bolts, today I've had to grind a couple of mm off them as when turning left I was hearing noises coming from the offside front. Turned out the bolts were just catching the dust shield.
Still also having thoughts of lowering the front a little more, has never settled as low as I expected.

Dave, could I ask what the tubes of stuff are in the picture above of the wheels in parts? Looks like a couple of tubes of sealant and something else. What did you use them for. I've got a set of splits to assemble soon so looking for some tips. Thanks Jim.

I missed it somewhere
They started out as RS001's. Now 8J rear and 7.5J front.

CR24v??? Where's it all gone?? LOL
Yea course, the sealant is this stuff https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231022377560, then there's Loctite and then some Wolfs Nano Tech Rimsealent.jimbom30cab wrote:Dave, could I ask what the tubes of stuff are in the picture above of the wheels in parts? I just then Googled assembly instructions and followed a quite someone had written, on a VW forum I think it was. It's a pretty simple task, just time consuming. Was my first attempt at doing some and they have leaked a drop of air whilst being sat in the spare room over winter.

Great, thanks mate, i'll do the same.
About time I sorted a nagging issue with the car, overfueling. It seems to drive fin, and the plugs last time I checked were a nice brown, but tick over can be a bit lumpy and it stinks of fuel out the back despite getting through emissions tests comforatbly.
I've genrally put it down to the fact that I've used the ECU from the touring in my sig pic, which has an unknown after market chip in it, with the view that it'd be resolved once I get the mapping done proparly. This weekend I've been reading a fair bit about injectors, I'm currently using the orginal 325i injectors which were refurbished by Injectortune. I'm wondering whether these are maxing out and losing control of the fuel delivery.
Is it worth trying some M50/M52 or M30 injectors, or shall I just go ahead and try getting it mapped in its current state and see what happens?
One last thing, FPR's, do these wear out and lose the ability to maintain the fuel pressure?

I think the M20B25 injectors are good for about 250 bhp but that's only what i have learned on here. You could change the injectors but i'm not sure this would fix the problem. The A/F ratio needs to be pretty spot on over the rev range so unless you also change the air mass in so it exactly matches the fuel in the right ratio it will not help. I would say you need a good mapping session. Well worth doing. I remember Rob Ryder put M30 injectors in his 2.5 m20 and with a M30 air intake. I tied the same and it wouldn't run. Rob got his mapped and it pushed out 192bhp on the rolling road and pulled really well. Basically you can put what ever injectors you want in but it's all in the mapping. Are you running the standard M20 2.5 AFM ? Personally i'd stick with the injector tune cleaned M20B25 injectors and see if you can get a proper mapping session.
Have you asked Speedtouch if he has any chips you could try ?

Hadn't red that they're good for that much HP, will just try it as it is then. Just didn't want to be in a posistion of not being able to get it mapped due to underperforming injectors.
Nah, wouldn't bother with one of those personally.

Worth asking as I know a lot of his maps are from the OEM chips or those which have been properly mapped. (as i have supplied and received a few)
Finally got booked in with Wayne Schofield to findout what this engine is doing. Went up there yesterday to findout what I was half expecting, the injectors are maxing out, throughout the rev range. So will now be on the hunt for another set of injectors, get them refurbished and then give it another go.
Ran 199.3 bhp & 184.7 ft/lb as it is though.

In other news, I'm going to have to fettle the rear arches due to some tyre rubbing

That's great numbers. Looks like larger injectors could be needed then. Perhaps m52b28?
Decent result to start with!
Yea, pretty happy with as good as 200bhp when it's clearly far from running right, fingers crossed there's still a good amount to come from it.
Bigger injectors are what's needed, been told to go for something in the 180-220cc range, so M52B28's are too high, M50B25s are too low without upping the fuel pressure from 3.0 to 3.5 bar. M30s are 190cc so could be an option. However lots of VAG, Peugeot and Volvo late 80's scrap used injectors in the 210-220 range, so could be a good route to go.

I'm using a Schrick 272 cam, could maybe have gone a bit wilder but already needed metal taking out of the valve relieves as it is. Plus mid-range is far more useful in the real world.gromgsxr wrote:what cam are you using out of curiosity?
I was considering the M30 injectors but have instead gone for M50 ones (which of course have had a trip to Injectortune) for the better spray pattern, but this has meant I need to up the fuel pressure from 3.0 to 3.5 BAR.
New injectors are in, just waiting on the FPR to be delivered before I can fire it up, the M3 one is 5.0 BAR!! I'm going to RR Gathering on Sunday so have borrowed 3.0 BAR FPR just incase Royal Snail let me down with the delivery so I can get it running on that if needs be. Even at that, flow rate will be up from 149cc to 180cc so should see an improvement.
After talking with DanThe I've also relocated the FPR from off of the fuel rail using an E46 M3 housing, which then required the return blocking off on the fuel rail.

I've got tickets so I'll be there, doubtful much before 10 though.
New FPR was delivered this morning, it's a standard 10mm one and not an 8mm one, good job I was able to borrow one afterall!

Fired it up this afternoon to find that there's a pin sized hole in the weld blanking plate letting petrol squirt out, so had to rush out and buy some fuel hose and swap back to the standard rail.
Good news is that even just ticking over in the garage I can tell a difference, still lumpy but my eyes weren't stinging from hydrocarbons.

IMO keep it simple, there is a bosch FPR thats identical to the m20 3b one but its 3.5b instead so PNP if you desire a bump in pressure 0280160263. you probably will need the higher pressure as the m50 injectors only flow marginally higher at the same pressure but it might be all you need...
