Hi Guys,

Im in the final stages of my e30 custom m3 build and need some help with wheel fitment etc...

Ive fitted 4 pot wilwood callipers which as you may know are quite chunky... Today, i offered up my 16's without tyres just to check fitment before I decide to rebuild the wheel or go for 17s.

Basically, to get the wheel on I need around 20mm spacer... Ive got 2 inch lips on the front but would mean id have to reduce that to a 1inch lip :( as i don't want any camber or wheels sticking out...

I notice a lot of e30's have 17/18s with generous, deep lips on the front and wondered if I'm missing something, or if there is another solution? Even without the spacers I would struggle with 2inch lip.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Maybe they don't have big brakes as well as deep dishes

RS barrels are not as large as one piece wheels, I have 16" RS's and can't use Wilwoods or an other aftermarket brake upgrade.

Opposing piston calipers are not compatible with BBS RS. In fact, stock brakes require the removal of the caliper clip to fit BBS RS with a reasonable offset and lip.

Big brakes & deep dish is not easy to achieve, usually a compramise has to be made, but its possible to get nigh on what you want at a price, reducing the front dish slightly, using a custom bell that pushes the disk further back with the back plate trimmed away & a suitable spacer will usually get a result, Wilwoods are not the widest brakes out there either!

Just to add, I have AP Racing CP6720 calipers on a 315x25.4mm disc, offset to within 3mm of the bottom ball joint. The bell is +8mm thicker at the hub face also. This is to allow a stock 16x7.5" ET27 wheel fit.

With the effective offset now being ET19, there is an effect on how the car feels. More tramlining and slight reduction in weight around the straight ahead.

You have to choose, function or form.

Thanks guys, much appreciated... Im going to keep my current set up for now and just use a spacer and reduced lip size just to get the car on the road asap and then will consider the mods you guys mentioned above over the winter :)
