Hey Guys,

I am in the middle of a m52 conversion and wondering what brakes would be most appropriate and what is needed.

Donor car - 4 door 316, so will be changing the brakes anyways but don't really have time to do any brake refurbs so essentially wanted new calipers. I dont intend to use the car on a track straight away so maybe OEM calipers with good disc and pads will do? There seems to be a huge selection of braided hoses on ebay - any suggestions for my setup?

Thanks guys
Seenan

You really need to change the brakes (and suspension) for those of off a E30 cab, touring, iS or 325i saloon - in fact, anything other than a small engined, 2 valve per cylinder saloon, without ABS. Rear discs will need matching trailing arms, and your existing front struts will be the relatively weak smaller diameter ones, so buy and fit the complete package.
You should be able to buy this with perfectly serviceable calipers - I've never had to rebuild an E30 one, although I'm sure there are dud ones out there.
Braided brake hoses aren't all good news. When they fail, they fail suddenly and catastrophically, whereas rubber hoses tend to give a spongy, long pedal first as a warning, so if you do go down this route, buy good quality ones of a reputable brand.
Ones with stainless ends, as well as braid, are a good idea, and to be legal for road use, the braid must have a protective covering on it.

Thanks Brian - I have already got the bigger 51mm struts and new trailing arms for the disc conversion. Just for peace of mind and since I am getting a lot of other new bits I was hoping to use new calipers. So these from euro should just bolt straight on?

Or I saw some on ebay a bit cheaper but still Bosch:

Any thoughts?

Also is there anyone that actually makes a purpose brake servo or is the clio one my only option? If so do you know if there is a new one I can get off euro maybe?

Thanks Dan - do you reckon the euro ones won't really be worth it?
