Hi guys, was after some advice for the rear window on a convertible top. I saw this on ebay..

Can you take out the stitched window & stitch a zipper in to convert your roof to a zipped version? I have emailed the guy but no response as of yet.

Lol, i haven't brought it yet. I was just trying to gather information for a friend. It just seemed like an interesting concept and relatively cheap in comparison. If it is a pita probably better to get it done professionaly.

Whats the cost nowadays? £250?

If he emails back i will let you know. Nothing wrong with being a tight arse, i have to maintain & run my daily & the mrs car, so the e30's do sometimes get pushed to back of the que.

This is what I did and the results are very good for a temporary fix and you can see out of the back.

There are two different types of window, sewn in and zipped in. I believe original roofs for pre facelift are sew-in and zip in for facelift. The zip in version also needs sewn unless you want to seal the canvas down onto the window with tiger seal.....

I have bought kits from emiata.com and I have sewn a window in. It's a physically hard and time consuming operation and it's hard to make it look good. I'd recommend getting a pro to do it or buy a replacement used roof as they come up occasionally.

Got a reply from the seller, he says he doesnt recommend using a zipped screen on a sewn screen.
