How much better would it be on my 325 auto cab than non switchable?
On my old E36 (albeit a 318i), it gave a great boost.
Thoughts?

Personally? I find the difference between non switchable and switchable like night and day. It transforms a basic auto box into a much more interesting / usable thing. While it'll never be a manual, it gives much greater flexibility.

Agreed,my cabby was cheap and i wasnt happy mine had one,(iv had plenty in oz)but the swichable isnt to bad,iv shamed a honda aerodeck couple days ago to the point i questioned its only a 2lt,and i had the inlet off on the resto so its (i think)a 2lt,but id dont redline my motors like some do,but for a heavy cabby,f##k it goes sum

Excuse my ignorance, but I assume it just changes the shift point in the rpm?
Is it a whole new gearbox, or just ECU/wiring?

I have both version on 325's and the switchable is more responsive and fun when in S mode! The early non switchable is slower to kick down due to being a cable rather than electronic, I find both enjoyable but do prefer the switchable.

Has anyone attempted to fit one of the later 5/6/7-speed automatics to an M20? I don't imagine it's a popular request but surely some weirdo had attempted it? Are there any obvious reasons it couldn't be done with relative ease? I like automatics for day to day driving but the 4-speed fitted to the E30 hobbles performance relative to a 5-speed manual.
