Hey Guys just finally finished fitting the crazy fuel tank! 2 months later and it's on.

Got an issue !! Cars running rough really not happy a˜• I bought cheap cross land fuel filter but not sure if I fitted correct? It says in on the filter pipe so I connected pipe from tank to the in side and pipe to engine other side of filter.

Would the car work at all if fitted incorrectly? Or would it just choke to death??

Please help wanna be out tommorow and enjoy bank holiday.

Many thanks a‘aaaaa‘aaaa

Is the fuel filter on the right way ? It's easily done.

Can't see that connecting a fuel filter the wrong way around would affect engine running at all.
Would just reduce the service life of the filter.

Could it be somthing to do with the expansion tank?? I just opened the fuel tank cap and heard a hissing sound! Like pressure being released??

I did disconnect due to replacing filler neck and all hoses conected as they were rotten.

I am about to change direction of fuel filter just to see. Will post back in 30 mins a‘aaaa

I've seen it and it does stop them running.

Does your car have a carbon canister under the bonnet.

In that case the pressurised fuel tank needs investigating.

'88 cars are all prepared for a canister, so start with the end of the rubber hose that would connect onto the canister if you had one. It must be open.

What would I need to do? Is it the hose that threads through the top side of the tank??

I put it back but did not put a hose back on as it just hung there so fidnt think it make any difference to put hose over it as its already open.

The vent hose which would connect to the carbon canister is in the engine bay, below the brake master cylinder next to the two fuel lines

Car running well expect for pressure building up in tank!

I hear a hissing noise when undoing the fuel cap? Also the the fuel gauge is erratic? Moving up then down intermittently?

Fuel tank vent to the outside is via several hoses to the vapour collection tank at the top of the rear right wheel arch, and then via a single pipe under the car that ends up in the rear left corner of the engine bay. This steel pipe will have a hose on it that either goes to a carbon canister (that you don't have) or is just tucked inside the reinforcement structure for the front left suspension tower.
If your tank is pressurising, something, somewhere is blocking this pipe.
Erratic fuel gauge is either a faulty sender in the tank, or a loose nut on the back of the instrument cluster, immediately behind the gauge.

Ok I have had a look. My vent pipe isn't connected to anything on the way out. It's threaded through one on the holes on the side of the tank next to a fuel line.

So it just vents to the atmosphere. I have pics that I took before I put it all back as I wanted to make sure I connected everything as I should.

I will try and get pics up! What's the best way ?

Bump..

Any reason why mine isn't connected to a pipe in the engine bay and not just hanging as in the image? Could any one else please check and see if after a drive and you open your tank you hear a hiss noise. Many thanks

Im pretty sure your evape hoses one or more are blocked, sometimes the fat one in the driver side inspection hatch gets pinched on its way to the tank behind the rear tyre.i hope you sort this mate :?
