Period stereo recommend

As above my stereo is shagged, spent 2 nights chasing wiring faults that weren't there!!!! Can anyone recommend a stereo that would look at home in the dashboard rather than all these star trek ones that halfords seem to have!!!
Tape or cd I'm not bothered. ....doesn't have to be totally original but close enough will do. ...
I have seen a couple of Alpine ones on eBay which look OK and I remember them being really popular back in the day! !!

Thanks for that quite interesting , I thought there would be just one make /model fitted not just any old thing they could get their hands on! !!!!!
I.m seeing a lot of bmw bavaria stereo's I'm presuming these were never fitted to E30s?

BMW Bavarias were fitted to late UK E30's so mostly touring and cabrios in 1992-94.

I've got a Blaupunkt London SQM37 in mine that I picked up for £10-20. Hooked up to a JBL MS8, it sounds pretty impressive when using FM, and the MS8 offers aux input too, so I can still bluetooth stream from my phone, but without ruining the dash. Best of both worlds IMO.

Those leathers look ace!! Can't believe I let an absolutely mint set go for £400 a few years ago....
Thanks for all the replies think I'm going to get an alpine tape stereo to match the speakers or maybe a bavaria unit.?
Is there much difference in quality i remember alpine had a good name years ago. ....

There's a massive difference in quality between the FM output with the DSP in the amp turned off, and with it turned on, I find. It's listenable with it off, but there's not much depth to it. If you wanted to listen to Radio 4, fine. Radio 1, not so great!

Thanks for all the replies and offers of stereo's for sale I've purchased a bavaria unit from eBay just hope it's good quality!!!! And it says bmw on it so it's appealing to my ocd. ....
