Go in and get yourself a trade card, you only have to fill a form in.

I'm pretty sure you just fill a form in, in store. And you get a card straight away, I'm sure you could fill it in as a company aswell. Not sure if they work online.

you need to work in the trade, mechanic/ engineering etc a pay slip or letter is needed as proof,

Should be alright, unless the managers a cock and does digging into it which Is unlikely, most of them will briefly check it and issue one

Cheers I`ll give it go and we do use Halfords at work for lots of bits and we also have a "proper" tool kit from there.
Would a letter asking for one be of benefit?
