Hi all, got the 318is this weekend and i love it, a bit different from my mk1 golf, more refined but just as much fun. I've been sorting out things on the car today one of the jobs being the drivers side door lock which needed replacing i notice that there was a plate that sits around the door lock with a cable pluged into it, is this the heater for the door lock or something else, is there any way to tell if the mirrors are heated? My interior lights do not come on when i lift the handle, which i had read was the other option. Also the passenger side interior light comes on when i open the door but the drivers side does'nt, but i can turn the drivers side on by the switch, is it ment to be like this? Finally, when i removed the door card i had a cable taped up near the wing mirror cover, would this be a speaker cable for tweeters? i can locate the other end in the foot well but only one cable the other seems to be in the loom, there was also some other lose conections down in the loom, is this normal, i.e there for optional extras.

Thanks for any answers or advise

Chris

P.S.

Anyone know if theres any bmw breakers around Plymouth or Devon.

One option if you're not sure is to ask the parts guys at your local BMW dealer for a factory spec print out of your car - they are usually happy to provide this if you have the chassis or reg number. This will give you a list of the spec of your car as it left the factory and should include the heated mirrors / door locks if they are on the car.

Hope this helps. :)

Welcome to the world of the iS mate :)
Ive never heard of any BMW breakers local but there is a garage in Ivybridge somewhere that specialise in them and have a few breakers.

What exactly are you after?

If you have the above, you will also have heated washer jets, as they came in a package, check to see if there is wiring running above the headlights (N/S) and into the bonnet.
You will also notice that your mirrors should clear up quickly on a cold morning, and try touching the glass to see if they are warm, ignition needs to be switched on.

i believe that you should have heated washer jets if the mirrors and locks are heated, this is easy to spot cause your washer jets will have wires going to them. all three came as a package if im not mistaken :D

Im after various things really, i need a new cover/panel for the headlight adjusting switch, a new bit of trim for the rear ash tray, a wheel brace and tool kit, torch. Would like to fit an electric sunroof, fog lamps, obc, pop out rear windows.
