carb on a golf *pics*
Moderator: martauto
Hi sorry about my limited knowledge of carbs but My brother has a 1.3 golf mk2 and has a pierburg carb with one of those panel airfilters. I notices that there are two pipes next to each other at the base of it. One seems to go somewhere and one just has a pipe that goes nowhere, but when removed the car cuts out, once attached it starts no problem. What is this pipe called and it ok being left like that. I personally found it strange that the car would cut out as it does not go anywhere,,,,any idea anyone?

more than likely its vacume. it might be used to balance vacume from the head to the intake like my e30.
if you start the car disconnect it while its running then put your hand or finger over the hole and it runs smooth again it will probably be that. put some pics up since ive never worked on a golf before but carby is pretty much the same allround.
get back to us on how that works for you as carbys run off vacume without it it just porrs in fuel with no air to make it atomise let me know how it goes!!
That hose works with out it being connected to anything, but that used to go on the original air filter housing. However i tried to attach it on the vacuum can and it revs higher, but I am trying to find out what attached to the vaccum can 'tit' and where it goes to, I mean generally the car runs fine, its actually pretty good for a 1.3 but I just want to make sure that all the pipes go where they need to etc. . I have tried to ask on the forum for this car but no joy, this is why the zone is the best !!

That distributor advance can should have a vacuum line going to it. Whether the one nearby is the correct one is another thing. That air filter is a clue that dubscummerz have been meddling
