I've just bought a Z3 steering rack and I'm wanting to fit it to my e30 325i Sport. Which has the m30 3.5 conversion. I couldn't really clarify what all had to be changed to fit the Z3 rack.

Can some of yous that have fitted one give me a quick list of what has to be done.

Thanks.

The standard uj setup fits straight on no linkages or mods needed. You will need to spacer the rack as per wiki and Im pretty sure you use the front mounting holes( there are two on the frame) . I'll have a look at mine on the weekend , you will also need to modify / buy new pipes

The only thing I can think that might be s problem is your m30 exhaust system but I guess that's fairly custom anyway?

Thanks for the reply if you took a few photos for me I'd really appreciate it it was the linkage I wasn't sure about to be honest. And I've 3 e30 racks so I'm going to attempt to bend the pipes to suit from one of them.

And yes my exhaust is custom but the down pipe is all m30 standard from the headers down its beyond that I've got a full S/S system so I'm hopeful the racks fitting is ok.

P.S I use my e30 track rod ends don't I?

It's a while since I did mine, but from memory one of the downpipes needs modifying to clear the steering column when you've got the m30 in. And if you go for new power steering pipes then the m20 ones from Dan-The on here fit the m30 conversion, you just need to give one of the pipes that run from the pump a little twist to fit, but it all fits nicely then

In the front hole packers on the top - the uj's not fitted, neither are the pipes so no pictures of them but as its mounted all bolt up not problem

Thanks for the photo.

As for the down pipe having to be modified can anyone confirm this 100%. Thats worrying to think I might need to cut and weld :(
