Hi all,
The driver's back rest in my cabriolet doesn't hold in position and keeps reverting back to reclined angle that's not comfortable for me.
Presumably the mechanism needs sorting, but I'm not overly hands on. Is this something I can fix myself, or has anyone got a write-up for dummies?
Thanks
Drivers seat mechanism repair

have a look at the 2 links below. My seat back used to not lock into place and from what I remember there was a broken metal bracket as mentioned in the 2nd link. The broken bit was missing so I had to replace the entire recline mechanism on one side with one bought from a breaker here - which was reasonably easy using both these links.

There are catches at either side that engage simultaneously to keep the back in position. If your back doesn't hold, then the chances are that the catches are out of sync with each other and can't engage.
The most likely reason for this is that the seat frame has cracked on one side near the hinge point, and the most likely reason for this cracking is that at some time one of the two screws holding the complete seat back to the base has worked loose and the resulting movement ignored.
Repair is possible by welding, but there's a fair bit of stripping down to do to get at the crack and not set fire to fabrics while welding.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the links and if it's a non-starter ill just have to find a clever mannie to fix it for me.
