318 is cooling fan

i know this post realy needs a picture realy but i cont get one. am looking at buying a 318is and have got the owner to send me some pictures of the car and engine bay, and there doesn,t seem to be a fan or couling for a fan between the front of the engine block and the back of the radiator? should there be one? the car is a 1990 if that makes a difference. cheers for any help.

May have been converted to electric, and the fan has been mounted to the front of the rad. Ask the guy to take a look through the grill.
Easy enough to fit a viscous though, all E30 waterpumps have the thread there ready, and the shroud will only be a couple of quid from the dealer.
