My honda accord type-r engine spun the shell on connecting rod and basically the shell has melted to razor thin metal and took some meat of the crankshaft journal, if I measure the rest of the journals they are 48mm in diameter where the affected one measures 47.5mm at its thinnest and 47.9mm at its fatest so it is egg shaped as a result. My question would be - is the crank still repairable or is it just good as a boat anchor?

Thanks in advance

P.s. don't condemn me for having a Honda I know it's like a swear word around here :D your help will be appreciated

Have you spoke to any local machine shops? Getting shells will probably be your biggest issue id of thought as that will
need a hefty grind.

The crank sounds like scrap to me. The biggest undersize bearing will be +0.5mm if you can get them.

You are already at 0.5mm with what you can measure, in order for the journal to be made perfectly round an concentric to where it began its life, material will need to be removed all the way around the journal.

Get another crank, you won't have to pay for the grinding and undersize bearings command a higher cost than std size ones.

I though these Honda things were supposed to be indestructable, Vtech kicked in yo?

:D :D

Probably would have been indestructible if previous owner had not put so much sealant around the sump which got suced into oil pump and blocked some of the oil ways that resulted in scrap crank as I gather from your comments, it is proving difficult to get a good second hand crank at the moment

If someone has or knows of a good h22a7 crank please let me know

Thanks

I'm sure somewhere in the states will do 0.75 bearings, they try and get as much power as they can out of the Vtec, so I'm sure they knock the odd crank out.

0.75?
So would it not weaken the crank beyond the use as it supose to spin to 8000rpm? I have been to a local engineering shop and they said it's basically a scrap just like maggspower said but they said they can repair it for me with no warranties if I really want it, not confidence inspiring to say the least.

So I thought they said that not because of unavailability of oversized bearings but because the crank would be too weak or am I wrong as the crank is quite chunky bit of steel?
