Yes id initially got a 2.3 (long engine) but they dont like revs and being a track car they spend most their life sat high revved.
Im fitting
3.5bar map sensor
3 bar fpr
Uprated valve springs
Fmic
Siemens 660cc injectors
And either a holset hx35 or garret gt28r
This will run a safe 400-420hp safely (stock engine will take 550hp on the stock forged internals
I cant let much out on the gearbox adaptor atm untill tested and theyre are ready for sale a‘a

I heard the 2.0l was better for revs, that's why I asked.

I running a 6 speed diesel e46 box all going well... that maybe trial and error as i need to check the ratios compared to the 5 speed you see. Ideally id love to run a 6 speed honda s2000 box but that would mean much work

have you had a look in PPC magazine at their saab powered escort?? seems most folk who use a saab lump also use the omega box.

Yes the omega box bolts straight up to the engine and straight up to the standard e30 prop, you just need a saab viggen clutch and saab 9000 flywheel then space the input bearing by 20mm enven the bmw clutch lines are in the correct location, this is a back up plan. Unfortunately the box is rated to 280nm of torque but my engine will be around 370nm more turbo depending so people question the box reliability... however none have failed even on a 518bhp omega with the saab engine fitted.

just a thought, would the M51 TD box be any good??

A little update removed the sump, pully and cam chain casing

Its plain to see its had regular oil changes and the cam tensioners ect are in good condition... very little schrapnel in the oil strainer the sumps off to be cleaned then ill start cutting and making the custom sump. Ive gotto overcome the issue with clearence over the subframe so ive measured up and having it modified.

Im binning of the anti shudder chain this will release some power and liven the engine up (smaller chain shown here)

Also sorted the bolts out to get galvanised

Looks good mate top work, im looking into running a saab rather than throwing 2k at a m50/52, custom engine mounts Or is there some off the shelf custom ones that fit this? Id be interested in a gearbox plate if there all good and up for sale

Haha yeeeh well i was going to put a full bolt off front end on but had to do a emergency chop to get the engine out as i didnt have the head room with the engine crane. I think im going to just make a bolt in bar on the center piece as it gave more than enough room to get the engine out.

Fair enough, I didn't realise that was the plan all along. I assumed your drive was flat, as it doesn't look like your engine stand is sprinting off here.

I may have got away with it if id pulled it out onto the left of my drive but means a multi point turn manoeuvring the car back into the garage after would have been a nightmare. Pulling out forward the crane would have been on the slope. the drives a bugger

Took a run out last week to peters for a brew and a getrag 265 gearbox

Tried the box for size against the bell housing ive finished. I needed to take abit more material out of the bellhousing to get a nice flush fit everythings lining up which is a bonus. So added atouch more weld on the inside

Only problem now is getting a hydro clutch rigged up, not too sure how im going to do that, its looking like i need to make a bracket to mount the slave cylinder on, now no ones really done this using a hydro clutch so its going to be some tedious trial and error i think, im starting with a omega slave cylinder, e30 m3 paddle clutch, saab 9000 flywheel, saab viggen pressure plate.... in theory this should do the job.

Another piece has arived today, the engine i have is a 9-3 and the inlet manifold is very poor flowing like this

Ive been after a 'log type' saab 9000 inlet manifold which are much much better flowing but harder to come by pic

a very nice chap on uksaab forums had this for sale for a good price

Now the sharp eyed of you will notice the mouth of the intake will be facing the rear of the car- no good for me :/ so ive got to cut the throttle body flange off and attach it to the other end and blank this end off.... also rotate the flange 180° so the throttle body sits at the correct angle

Resulting in the pipe sitting off center so this will cause issues and the oil filter housing wont line up. So i need to alter the sump very very slightly


This was a hard find.. the box never had a output flange on and getrag 265 has a specific flange only for that box... getrag couldnt supply unless they had a order of 200 or more.. so after exhausting ebay and various forums phoned nearly every gearbox company in the uk then found one up the road in Nottingham... result. A short drive a free coffee lots of advise & £15 later i got one

Now this was a epic moment... fitting the saab engine to a chopped and welded vauxhall corsa bellhousing then a e30 m3 box upto is somthing that shouldnt work and somthing i was dreading... but it fits!

Feeling very very eager i dropped it in the bay next up make the mounts

nice i have been thinking about getting a tig but i might just get a gun for my mig. Good choice of engine btw those motors are bulletproof, i did think about putting one of these or a volvo t5 in my e30 but i decided against it in the end because of the sump and gearbox mods
Yes sump and gearbox is the hurdle to get over. A vauxhall omega gearbox will bolt straight up but i didnt trust the strength of it hence going for the 265 box, plus when ive had a season out of it if it proves faultless im having straight cut gear set in it. The sumps easy
