Right folks, its rapidly approaching MOT time for the touring.

I need your input to help me make a decision!

I get the feeling the touring will need some "fettling" for the MOT- mainly

Suspension Bushes
Windscreen Washers (I have new hoses here)
Exhaust Brackets (again, I have the parts, aint fitted them yet)

The car itself is in decent order, and drives/stops well.

Basically, the crux of the matter is

Do I get the touring through an MOT, or do I cut my losses and get another (possibly more economic) car?

I can see 4 options

1. Sell it and buy a diesel (saving vast sums of money on fuel and insurance)

2. Get it throught an MOT and continue to run it (means it doesnt get all the niggly things fixed)

3. Put it off the road, and do MOST of the stuff I want to it (bar paint and 2.7) whilst using a wee car as a runaround (Gets the Majority of the stuff done making it closer to what I want)

4. Go the whole hog- Paint, 2.7, LSD, LPG, suspension etc and be carless for probably 3 months (not to mention spunking all my free cash on a 18 year old car :? )

as they say on big brother...

Noooo! Dont sell it. I like it. I chose 4 as I wanna see a 2.7 tourer beast going about! If not then go for 3 and get that golf. :D

If it's done you proud then you might aswel do it proud eh!

go for number 3 Neil, get a sad old turd to chug about in, it will encourage you to get the touring done/ finished.

I would say go for number 3 or even number 4... winkeye
Cos pickin up a second hand banger these days is cheap as chips.
Old man just picked up a j reg fiesta diesel van for 90 quid with tax and test and rs alloys...... So it depends what u will settle for on the 2nd car runaround front.... :)
If you want a car which looks respectable, number 3 is best but if your not bothered what you drive round in the meantime go for number 4 and get the beemer well sorted..... :D

Go number 3, remember some of the top gear programmes, buy some piece of rubbish for Ԛ£100, run it into the ground while doing the rest of the work on the tourer.

If the bodywork is OK, i.e. not going to rust like a mofo then the paint can wait and do the engine when you have more cash

Personally I'd go with option 4 - you then get the car that you want.

OK, so you have to spend 3 months driving round in some cheap old turd banger and you get to p*** away all your money on an 18 year old car.

So what?

If you wanted safe and reliable and economical:

You'd be driving around in some modern monstrosity

Instead you have a bit of style on your drive and you can make it exactly how you want it.

Go on,

Live the dream

Of course this is only my opinion and I do recall my fathers car rebuild maxim-

It will take twice as long as you think and cost 3 times as much as you have budgeted :D

yes neil, its obviously got to be number 4, public transport isnt that bad when youve got something to look forward to getting back.i waited 17 weeks for mine.as for the cash? that doesnt even come into it,its a labour of love.obviously there are far more sensible ways to spend your money, but who wants sensible? as you know mine has cost me more than a couple of thousand so far,but id rather have the satisfaction of building a top motor than having a pile of crumpled bits of paper winkeye
