Random seat mistake.

Hi all,

I have been restoring some sport seats over the last week. I got the seats thinking the drivers seat would need new lower bolster foam and some other work because under your right arse check was an uncomfortable lump. After flipping the seat I noticed some cable ties and some out of place staples. Thought nothing of it and loaded the seats in my can and drove home with a smile, I let the seats sit in my garage for a few weeks gathering dust and getting the way! So I eventually musted up the courage to give the drivers seat a proper inspection. After removing the staples and cable ties I managed to forse my hand between the foam and leather under the right arse check part. Some poor bastartd had been sitting on about 15 inches of heavy duty cable cutters for who knows how long.

After removing the cutters I tried to stuff some foam in the bolsters to plump them up a little but it looked s*€$ so I left the seat for a few more days. Tried taking them to a trimmer but of corse they said new leather! So took them home and decided to completely strip the seat and take a look for myself, after removing the seat back and leather covers I noticed the lower bolsters seemed to have a lot of foam on the outside (not on the thigh) I pulled the foam off and sure enough left and right had been mixed up!!! I can only assume this happend at the factory back in the day because the seat had never been stripped before.

Just thought Idd share my random seat story.

Well now you know lol, I think the touring ended up wrapped around a lamp post rear end first. If it's the 2.7 M20 we talking about the running gear in now in a blue vert...

The grey interior started off in a red 325i touring which was then fitted to the black 2.7 touring which Rich smashed and i sold him the blue convertible and swapped all his running gear into.

A well known interior on the zone I'm surprised the cutters stayed hidden so long! From red to black and now it's getting restored and going in my white touring 3 touring's ha ha ha. All I need now is some grey load trim and a fresh load cover.

Minesapint that's exactly what I was thinking! If I paid £25k back in 89 for a new touring jumped in and had some pliers in my arse! Never mind the lack of bolster... Looooooool

The turd that this trim was removed from was owned by a known fettler so there is a good chance the handiwork and cutters are his. The only thing I do with nasty grey trims is sell them

All the washers,clips, screws and springs where intact and in the correct place. All the tabs holding the leather in place looked to be on there first bend. I'm no Sherlock Holmes but I think your fetter attempted to remove the cutters and gave up, he then replaced the securing wire with some cable ties and stapeled the leather back.

My money is still on a factory mistake

Oh and I almost forgot to say I like silver seats so if you got any drop me a PM

And the plot thickens.... I did notice the U.S.A mark on the cutters and thought them to be out of place in a German workshop but let's face it who uses local tools lol and they are very good quality.
