Guy's i'm after a nice clean low milage convertible to do up to use for the summer and i've come accross a 318 cab that might fit the bill. Having being used to driving my 2.7 and 325's i was wondering what the power was like on a 318 and whether i'd be dissapointed with it or not? Ideally i'd like a 325, but they are not easy to come by in the example i'm looking for and the one's the do come up for sale are top dollar, so i may be forced to look at other models.
It's either that or i have to buy a E36 cab
Ho and please keep a look out for a nice example E30 for me please

i know someone selling a 318 lux on a k reg but it is almost mint, its the sort of car that you would not want to do anything to apart from drive it, milage is about 57,000 with history, i think he wants Ԛ£3,200 for it, but it is very very nice

Andy i can quiet easily chop up any car mate

Only car in the BMW range that will be spared will be a E30 M3. Anything else will get
Can you get me some more details please Mr P. Cheers.
Besides i dont want to chop my new project up. Maybe a nice M-tech2 and some fat wheels and ICE and that's it me thinks

Do what I did..............
I was looking for a 325 convertible because I had only owned Sports. But I also wanted a convertible that was 'J' reg or newer for my private plate.
325 convertible and 'J' reg onwards, didnt go together for what money I had at the time. So I went and got a 318i Lux Convertible with full leather and electric hood all for my spending money and now the engine is being changed!
Thats my opinion, get a late 318 and change the engine!

Dude you must be reading my mind

How much are you payig to have the engine changed? I've seen an ok looking one on the trader site with a M-tech 2 kit and alpina alloy's on a K for Ԛ£3800 ono. I'm tempted, but i'm sure it's been up for sale before and has had 7 owners

Its costing me my time to change the engine!

but on topic, You can get better for cheaper trust me! Lets just say about Ԛ£3000 MAX
It would take somebody a weekend to change the 1.8 to a M20 2.5, straight swap, its when you start talking E36 M3 engine swap its Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£

The main reason i like the car on the trader is cause it has an Mtch 2 kit and grey leather. That means i wont have to fluff around looking for a kit. I can also sell the leather and get one trimmed up. I know 7 owners sounds a lot, but it's an average of a owner every 1.5 years and if you're changing the engine anyway, then it dont matter does it? I dont want to rush and ghet something, then an even better one comes along a couple of weeks later, but then at the same time, i need to get something now so i can have it ready for the summer otherwise the prices start going up

If your going to change the inside there's no need to go for leather! And tec2 kits arnt hard to source cheap and are easy to fit!

I saw those 2. Didn't like the black one cos of the kit and colour, although it has ICE, but they are minor. The other one looks nice, but take off the money you can get for the leather interior, alpina wheels and the tech 2 kit and that green one would be cheaper

tech 2 kit will set you back about Ԛ£500, Ԛ£500 maybe for the interior and say Ԛ£300 for the wheels. That's Ԛ£1300 between the green one and the blue one

M reg E30? If you're talking about the E36, then no one will sell a 325 cab in good knick for that kind of money. To be honest i'm quiet tempted to buy they Q plate one now

I dont have the paitience for sitting around waiting

Long gone dude. I was desperate to buy that Motorsport, but the Zone was down and i needed someone to go see it and put a deposit down for me as i was in Italy. It came out Thursday and sold Friday. I must have spoken to them about 20 times

Someone part x'd it and they sell 4x4's so they wanted to get rid of it. It had problems with the roof, but Ԛ£4k was still a bloody bargain

Like i said in my earlier post. No one will sell a E36 325 cab on a M plate with only 58k miles for Ԛ£3.5k unless it's been in an accident or there is something wrong with it. It should be double that price.

There is sumit wrong with it
needs tlc, hood does not work electronically, (manual), leather is worn, hence the price,
Some people think this is about Ԛ£2k to repair

e36 skip i think,
na it looks good but it does say in need of tlc. the hood dont work and thats more expensive than e30's to fix i believe. leather is worn but that dont matter really. it is very temting, but i'd still prefer a e30 325 cab.
i say go have a look at the green one but be very very very very picky. really give it a go over. and knock him down as much as you can. cash in hand is always good as we are all greedy gits
FOR SALE
SONY PSP'S £100

I've already told him that i wont pay more than Ԛ£3.4k if it's in good knick. To be honest i'll change the interior, wheels, engine and get the car blown over any way, so as long as there is no rust and the hood is fine, then i dont really see any problems, although like i said. I'd hate to buy it then see a nice 325 cab that dont need anything doing to it come up next week. I like the sound of a K plate though, which rarly comes up on a 325

Ben, a mate of mine has a 'H' reg 325 auto cab for sale , it is white, with a mint roof (manual), lots of recent mechanical stuff done, sub mounts, steering rack, cam belt, water pump etc etc. The car is standard apart from some council 16s. The car is in hertfordshire and he wants Ԛ£1750. Why pay over the odds for a car with no engine (i.e 4 pot) that you are going to molest anyway. Surely as long as its straight , sound mechanically and cheap that is all that matters?

I agree with you Pete. The only reason i'm looking at 318's is because i want a really late E30 like a K Reg and that's about the only car they come in. Your mates car sounds really nice, but by the time i get a full respray, Mtech kit and stuff, it would have cost me the same as it would cost to buy a K Reg 318, change the engine and do the same mods. Now if he wated Ԛ£1k for it, then that would be different
Go on Pete. I know you can make him sell it for that much

Back to the question of the power of the 1.8 engine....it's not all that bad.
Acceleration is more than acceptable and it happily cruised down the M4 back from Aces last weekend with 10-10.5mph on the GPS (11.5mph on the speedo) without any complaints.
When are you gonna need to go more than 10.5mph anyway?
A cab's for cruising, a 1.8 is more than enough
And you can get a 1.8 cab on an L-reg if you look hard enough

I'm sure you can find a L reg one Mr Z. It's just the time frame i have. I want the car ready for the summer so i have to start now. The amount of things i'd like to do, it will take me a while so it's upwards and onwards i guess
