Smoke is definitely not a good sign!

I'm going to test a few units I have over the next week or so for selling on Ebay, I'll let you know what comes up if you like Jim

Some good news. The guy at the radio shop called. The '48 had burnt out the PSU, so he'll be wanting £60 to replace that and give the radio a service. Very reasonable indeed !

Some bad news.

This little rust bubble was interesting me, thought i'd rub it down and treat it before it got worse

Image

Had a poke about inside and saw this !!

Image

So it had to all go

Image

Image

And this was mostly crusty rust

Image

It was strange that it was so bad, the whole outer section of the inner arch was rotten. As the panel came out this dropped out. It's a very old rag and you can see where the underseal has been painted over it.

This was wedged in the gap, probably during a previous "repair". The rag was really rotten and literally fell to bits.

Image

So i've ordered the new panels and whilst waiting for them to arrive, i'll tidy up the bodywork and get any last rusty bits cut out.

Image

Half way through the inlet re-fresh.

The M40 has 2 little rubber fuel hoses under the inlet and I wanted to check the condition of them, being in an area which gets quite hot. I'm glad i did as they were very brittle and were well overdue a replacement. If you've got an M40 it would be well worth doing. Yellow arrow shows old hoses.

Cool beans, the '48 is back and works a treat.

Thought i'd test the BEA 108E and the SQM 108 also, so rigged up a test bench

Image

Image

Image

Image

So far so good, going to test the spare 108E next, then the BEA 108 and also the SQL 88. Need to wire in some speakers first also.

The Denver has 2 source in sockets, might see if i can find something nice for the second source in, ideally a CDC-R1 if there are any in the world for sale......which it seems not.

Anyone know of one of these for sale ??

Flippin' heater valve blew again and i was 70 miles from home and I was loosing coolant into the footwell fast.

Pulled over at a Halfords, only decent shop about, i was in deepest darkest Dorset.

Did they have any pipe i could use to join the heater hose........absolutely not :(

Tried a few things but couldn't get a seal, was a bit worried how i'd get home so went to MacDonalds next door for a think.

By now it was dark and raining steadily.

Walking back to the car feeling a bit peed off, you'll never guessed what was parked next to me.....

Only a van with "heating and plumbing" on the side !!!

Top bloke cut me off a short length of 22mm copper pipe, couldn't believe my luck, such a nice guy even offered to help me fit it. In double quick time, i'd joined the pipes, topped up with coolant, quick bleed and was back on my way home.

Anyway, the heater valve O ring had gone, so i drilled out the rivets, popped in a new O ring and used some M4 bolts with nylock nuts to bolt it all down good and tight.

Fitted the SE skirts, few other little jobs and got a few snaps in the sun this morning before popping down to the meet.

Looks a bloody nice car that Jim, just needs the stilts shortening IMO.

What did you do with the blue leathers? Would've given a testicle for them had I not already got the Recaros.

Thanks mate, the good thing about the height is it's ideal for my trip to work. It's a very rural journey down county lanes, speed bumps, huge pot holes etc etc. Being high up and with soft springs makes it an enjoyable drive to be honest.

The blue leathers were no where near as nice as your Recaros though.

They were sold and basically paid for the rear arch repair and the current interior. Shame I know but overall worth it to me.

Cheers

Nice little job today, took the Apline kit out and fitted the Blaupunt kit back

The E qualiser really transforms the sound, really pleased with it.

The touch screen works well also.

Whilst fitting this somehow the OBC stopped working. Upon powering up it just flicks 0:00 momentarily. Nothing on the display at all. I took it apart, bulbs both work ok and the PCB looks fine. Could it be a dodgy feed from the clocks? (SI board has usual failures)

Looking good, I take it you had to butcher the center console to fit the equaliser? Been toying with that as an idea to fit my Blaupunkt CD-cartridge player.

Also, did you find say you've got a local guy who can fix/service these old units? No one local to me will touch them and my SQR-88 needs it's back lighting repaired, also missing the volume knob thanks to the last cowboys who had a go! :x

Hi mate, yer had to trim a section off the back of the centre console. I actually have another one which works perfect but has a cracked screen, originally I was going to use this, set equaliser how I like it and hide the unit out of sight.

There is a company in Portsmouth which repair these, the guy is a genius.
