You don't need anything like that to reset the service/inspection lights. You just need to connect pin 7 of the diagnostic plug to ground with a short piece of wire. Instructions on how to do it are in the wiki.

Pin 7 is easy to identify - it's the one on the outside that 'pacman' is trying to eat. I strongly recommend that you use an earth point on the engine or body (rocker cover bolt on an M20, rear bonnet bracket on a M40/42) so that there is no chance of misidentifying pin 19.

But would this tool work with an obd2 port possibly? As I might need it for other early bmws like e36 etc

do you e30 gurus think that the e30 ecu would understand and reset the inspection light with this obd2 adapter?
