As it's my cars 30th birthday this year (August) it'll be getting lots of treats, so this morning I decided I'd remove the injectors & have them serviced by Injectortune.
Followed the guidance in the wiki on "Cleaning injectors" right up to the point where it says .......'after removing fuel rail with injectors from the intake manifold, maneuver the whole fuel rail out between the manifold & cylinder head'.
Tried to remove in this way for over an hour......it will not come out!
The rocker cover has two cast flanges which fix the bracket supporting the inlet manifold, these flanges stop the removal of the fuel rail. Once the rocker cover is removed the fuel rail 'falls out'.
I'm sure all you guys know this, I didn't, was following the wiki write-up, which I notice is a Penguin technical write up.
The point of all this is to suggest a sentence be inserted into this guide to remove the rocker cover to enable easy removal of the fuel rail.

Now, pull up on the fuel rail evenly from each end. You may have to use a little force to get the injectors out of the intake manifold. Once out, maneuver the whole fuel rail from out between the cylinder head and the intake manifold. Be sure to have a container or some other sort of tray around to catch the extra fuel inside the fuel rail. Now take the whole fuel rail over to a workbench or other suitable work area.

I'm interested to see what condition my injectors are in after 30 years & never had a service..although only covered 22500 miles. Will report.

When I did mine it was much easier just to remove the entire intake manifold. It means removing other bits attached to it but its not really a big job.

I also replaced all gaskets, o-rings and jubilees at the same time as they all appeared to be original and most worst for wear. Once it was built back up with the injectors cleaned it finally sorted out my strong smell of petrol from the exhaust issues I had been chasing for over a year. Obviously I had an air leak that wasn't apparent no matter how hard I tried to find it.

Its been a couple of years, but I remember losing a lot of coolant, so it had to be topped up and bled afterwards.

as above, if your doing the injectors and doing a bit of an over haul remove the inlet..

The above would also allow you to inspect most of the hoses and the TB, which will likely need a new gasket. Check the fuel hoses whilst your at it.

Changed my injectors and new seals and its a b##ch off a job ,with the inlet still on and the the time some may have been on,(from factory)i think a small change to wiki could realy benefit a lot off amateurs like myself,,

The results before cleaning are not bad for 30 yrs old. When fired up after years long lay-up in 2014, I ran Redex through the first half dozen tanks of gas, don't know for sure if this helped, but the results are there.
I don't think I'll see any noticeable difference when reinstalled, but a worthwhile piece of maintenance.
Very impressed with Injecturetune, even returned replaced parts.

Along the same lines, just want to out a shout in for CP Injection in Merseyside who provide a similar service :)
