Sagging door edge protector

Hello chaps!
Have not been here for ages. Am still happily enjoying my mtech touring 318is. Started to get unhappy about sagging door edge protectors. Haven't found any info on how people restore/fix that rubbery thingy. Photo below:





Anyone found a solution to this problem? Some say that stretching it helps only temporarily. This item can't be replaced with new replacement part. Used replacements will turn into this anytime later anyway...

Take off the plastic sill trim at the bottom (slide over and back - NOT pull), push the square corner that's adrift hard into place, then slide/push the trim from both directions towards that corner, until everything is firmly in place, with a gap at the bottom.
Cut a piece of surround from an identical second hand one, push it into the gap, fit the fixings to the plastic sill piece and snap it back into place.

Not sure about the code, but the car is 1993 Daytona Violett Design Edition with sport seats interior.

I was considering this option, but the problem is that opposite the affected corner is another square corner. Doing like you say would create a gap in the left (b puillar) square corner. The top piece has to be stretched somehow. Otherwise, cutting the top part and patching it with used surround cutout won't solve the problem because the patch would be visible and fall down.

Was I clear at all?
