I'll likely be replacing the front wings on my E30 later this year.

I'm happy to pay for BMW wings but have read conflicting reports that they're now a lesser quality "BMW approved" part rather than OEM. Is there any truth in this or is it just internet hearsay? Are any pattern parts worthwhile or are they still ill fitting rubbish more at home on an Allegro?

Mint second hand ones, ideally in Delphin 184, would be ideal but most are shagged out scrap nowadays. :(

Didn't someone say the last wings they got from BMW were pattern as well?
Might have been cabby wings though?

Be interested to hear the outcome as my fronts are just starting at the bottom and want them replaced with genuine BMW panels.

You and me both. It would nice to know before splashing out a fortune on new ones. There was talk on here that the original stock had been exhausted and BMW were now supplying replicas that, whilst decent quality, needed some fettling to fit.

Veng panels used to make good pattern parts but I've no idea if they still do.

Mine are only starting to go at the bottom so maybe it will just be a case of welding in some new metal.

If bmw still make them with the original presses than the shape should fit perfectly. Problem with aftermarket wing is how well the presses has been made and some fit well other don't. As to bmw wings, my dad bought a cabby one about two years ago and it was fine.

Ditto, best to catch and rectify as early as possible :-)

Probably my comment you've seen saying this. I had to replace a wing on my old iS about 10 years ago, was a "BMW Approved", bought from Sytner BMW. Didn't fit any better than a "pattern" wing from ECP for £100 less. Shame the wing had already been prepped before we realised otherwise I'd have been sending it back.

Wrong number of holes, very poor fitment around the grille, big horrible gap. Panel gaps were fine though.

In recent years I've seen a few other well known Zoners reporting the same thing, wing stickered up and BMW Approved.

I also have the problems with the bottoms going.

If the BMW ones are no good and 150 each where would you recommend for them. How much are the aftermarket wings. I know euro car parts, schmeidmann, get etc do them but does anyone has any experience of finding a quality wing at a sensible price?

A pair of NEW genuine BMW wings fitted by me to a red 318i that i ended up reshelling Oguz327's A-tech built silver 2.7 into.

That was last year and the wings fitted perfect.

Ive also just ordered a pair for a car I'm restoring for someone.

Could it just be down to how good the dealer is then? I remember I had to wait weeks to get that wing as well, so maybe the dealer just ended up fobbing me off with BMW Approved instead. I have definitely seen others in recent years say they've had BMW approved wings as well.
