To paint or not to paint?

I have a number of dents I need to fix and now I'm wondering whether to re spray the car bearing in mind that the cost of the full respray will be a substantial percentage of the value of the car!! Any other ideas?

is the car metallic base coat/clear coat or solid color, very difficult to color match metallic base coat/clear coat and blending - so full paint job would be the ideal way to go. But a really good painter (I mean really good) can color match/blend and you'd hardly notice.

If solid color, say like alpine white, it is easy to match/blend. cheers.

It's black metallic but has a bit of fade and loses the metallic quickly after polishing! I'm guessing a full paint job would be a few thousand :0

Some dents can be removed without damaging the paint - google dent removal kit. It does require a lot of skill with some dents, using heat and cold with the pulling tool to remove the dent. There are quite a few mobile blokes out there that do it for a living. See if you can find one that comes recommended, they will soon tell you what they can achieve with your dents without having to use bog and a respray.
If the paint has been damaged when the dent happened, this would normally signal that you would need to hammer it out, maybe bog it and then touch it up/respray it.

sounds like the clear cote has gone south, usually happens on roof, boot/bonnet and tops of front and rear guards, full paint jobs needed.

The more work you do yourself the less it costs. There are a couple of threads on here where zoners have done all the work and just paid for a painter to spay in a booth and had great results and saved heaps.

It's a lot of work, 95% of a great paint job is prep work. I'm doing mine in Alpinewhite, am about half way and have spent so far about $1000.00 Au paint and materials.
