Talk to me about wind deflectors for vert
Moderator: martauto
Already wishing it was summer so I can get out in the vert again and one of these is on my list. I see there are some on fleabay but no idea if they are any good.
Does anyone have any experiences to share in buying or using?
Cheers

I have used our wind deflector on our cab a few times while driving on the motorway, i can't say i noticed any difference to driving without it to be honest, and since then not bothered with it. To be fair it was probably at quite high speed on each occasion though.

Sorry mate I have to disagree with this statement!ajay wrote:I have used our wind deflector on our cab a few times while driving on the motorway, i can't say i noticed any difference to driving without it to be honest, and since then not bothered with it. Before I fitted my wind deflector it felt like I was in a wind tunnel when going over 40mph!

Wind deflector up with the windows up at 70mph feels like you have the hood up! you can actually have a conversation with passengers and hear the music! and the clothes don't feel like they are being dragged off your back!

I can't recommend it enough!

And are these after market ones?
As an aside I find the car noisey with the roof up any way. Just a noisey cabin when on motorways. Unless it's blaring while at speed you can't hear the music, but then it' becomes an uncomfortable listen and want to turn if off. Not sure if it's me, or if the roof is not aligned or sommat causing road.wind noise to be more noticeable.

A 26 year old convertible is always going to be a noisy car as they are far less refined then modern cabbys.. so yea its always going to be noisy lolSonatine wrote:And are these after market ones?

Fair enough and by the sounds of it you actually paid attention to the difference, where in my case it just felt windy, period! Obviously BMW has used it because it does make a difference but i fell not just enough to make me bother to, and at higher speeds than 70mph no use imo.

You can't carry rear passengers if you have a deflector in situ.

I got a deflector for my cabby and have it in all the time. Admittedly you can't have rear passengers in it but for the majority of the time it's only the front seats that are in use.
It's so good that Mrs Jas doesn't complain about the roof being down ruining her hair.

Do you have to remove it when the roof is up?

There are one's on eBay for £250 so a brand new genuine one for another £50-100 is not bad at all.

I would if it were comparable to a Rolls.
Unfortunately, it is some hollow tubing, plastic and thin synthetic mesh....
