Hi guys, before I waste my money on a turd can you give your opinions, genuine tech1 325 sport in lachs silver 135k.

Worn cracked black leather, soggy carpet, cracked dash, sat for 3 years, starts first time but really tappetty, needs a service, brakes are really sticky, looks to need brake pipes aswell.

Rusty discs, small rust hole in sill, rust bubbles on sunroof panel and a small bit on roof, needs new front wing, needs new rear tech 1 bumper as has been reversed into something and needs a dent tapping out from inside of boot, both rear arches have been replaced but a bad job where you can still see the cut lines so they will need doing;

at the back and front of the side skirts on the rear quarter has started bubbling badly aswell and finally it has 18" alfords alloyz, the guy wants £1750 and won't drop a penny less, is this worth my while or shall I avoid it, I plan on working on it over winter and having it on road for May 2016, mechanical work I can do but body work I cannot, thank you!

yer probably worth the money

it's having the time and the cash flow to do all the work, that's the critical factor

but at 1750 if it's genuine it's not a bad price for a tech 1 project

I have the time after work, and I want it for a wedding in France in May 2016, so I have a bit of time to get it sorted through the winter :D

From your description the body will be the major job, The Gromit area in the bulkhead under the fusebox will almost certainly be dust which is a tricky repair as the main loom runs through it from what i've heard a decent Arch repair is £500 a corner plus paint, the sunroof panel is no sweat as they're easily replaced but the real elephant in the room is the roof rust as this is a very difficult repair. Check the rear inner arches as well they're probably non- existant. The problem is its probably worth £1500 plus to a breaker so what he's asking is reasonable but i doubt it's teh car for a man who doesn't weld unless you have a mate who does

I know a guy at a body shop that charged me £750 to put a new front wing on my car and cut out and weld a new arch in on the rear left and paint both sides of the car, I thought that was quite reasonable and a well done job. Hopefully he would be as reasonable on this car, again I'm just worried the car will just be far too rotten and cost me too much

It will probably be rotten but you'll never know until you get stuck into it.....by then you might as well finish it.

The other option is to take the 1.5k purchase price add on the £5k it will probably cost to fix up and with a £6k budget get a really nice sport and enjoy it from day 1

Here's an idea ! Give the painter / welder / magician a drink and get him to come and give the car a one over BEFORE you agree to buy it. He can then give you a VERY approximate price to sort it out.
BEWARE though, when you starting removing skirts/ boot trim/ carpets, things WILL get A LOT UGLIER / MORE EXPENSIVE ! :(

That's cheap so you may have a lifeline there. One possible way to deal with it would be remove running gear/ interior etc and you get on with that whilst letting your bodyshop keep the rest as a "fill in project " which should cut costs but depends on their appetite for this sort of arrangement

Worth every bit of £1500ish as a breaker but unfortunately it will cost atleast another 5K to put right which is worth it in the end imo as these cars are heading towards 6-8k so you would get your money back if you ever decide to sell up however your main obstacle will be to keep focused and determined to see it through.

If you get a bodyshop guy to look it over and give you an estimate, double it. Don't forget that he more welding it has done, it's likely the more paint it'll need. E.g. If it needs rear arches, to do it properly, you're painting both sides already !

Roof rust is the big one there, not a easy fix and time consuming to get right, and expensive in a body shop!

Please be aware that any rust you can see is the tip of the iceberg! These generally rust really badly and once you get the bodykit off and the carpets out things will probably be a lot worse.... Also the roof repair will be very tricky and the headlining etc will be a nightmare....I.ve just done my tech 2 which looked mint but needed a fair bit once I started looking properly...welding is expensive if you can find someone? Prep time takes forever be sure you really have the time, I have averaged about 20 hours a week over the last six months just to give you an indication, also factor in the weather etc if it's not garaged....
Not trying to put you off but until you.ve done one you have no idea what's involved....
If you need any advice give me a shout...

They are a lot of work so be prepared. If y it, I would add another couple on trtou think £4-£5k will easily.
Saying that, you can't buy a top sport for less than £10k minimum. The £8k examples will need work- I've been to see a couple over the past 3-4 months. They sold at around the 8 mark withter in a week after my viewing.

Sam, the worst thing to do is sell the car for 100% profit when on here people know "The car".
Try selling where NO ONE knows the cars...
You'll only get the "Brown " sort trying their luck on offering nan bread and curry's for the Shit heap....
