Oil Light On, But Oil Level Fine. 325i Touring....

Hi all,
Recently serviced my car, oil level is fine but the oil light is on, checked the oil level once cold and warm and it's fine. What could this be?

I used to have this after disconnecting the battery, it cleared after a few days as oil worked back into the sensor.

Which oil light?

In the clocks or on the overhead display?

Was on the overhead display, i did disconnect the battery and reset the service light and all is good now, oil level is good too! hope thats the end of the problem

Search the zone or look in the wiki.

The oil level sensor gets gummed up and can be cleaned out.

This did absolutely nothing to help towards solving the problem, except provide more time for the oil level inside and outside the sensor to equalise.
The small inlet hole in the sensor is gummed up, and needs to be cleaned by removing the sensor and then repeatedly immersing it in and removing it from a small can of petrol.

Cheers for explaining the proper fix ,as im starting to have this problem.and now i know why it takes a while for the light to go out after toping up the oil,you never stop learning

Note that the sensor is designed to be slow responding, otherwise it would be affected by surge.
After refilling a car with stone cold oil, it can take up to about five minutes for the light to go out with one that's working as it should.
