If you want it and can afford it, buy it - simple!!!
I actually like these E61's - though haven't owned one yet!!!
I've been looking at the 545, for the lower tax bracket and bargain(ish) prices - but I know they have their issues too!!!
Scariest thought for me with the M5 would be that I've heard the gearbox's can be very fragile, if driven keenly!!!
To be honest though, as much as I like it, there are plenty of other usable toys out there, that I would rather spend 25k on!!!

I do fancy the 550 Touring, even with the tenner a week rent, but they are still too expensive for me. The N62 V8's are supposed to be quite good, only common problems are valve stem oil seals and the dreaded coolant tube as far as I know, not heard of any valvetronic problems

N62's are a bit of a pain TBH. The are just as bad as the N42 valvetronic donk for oil leaks so both cam cover gaskets, the vacuum pump, front timing cover gaskets, oil cooler take off seals, vanos solenoid seals all leak at some point and lead to a very sweaty engine if left to build up.
Also, the earlier N62's suffered worn valvetronic intermediate levers with result in misfires.
And as you mentioned, valve stem seals and the coolant pipe in the V but telescopic ones are available.

It seems to be 2003-2004 ones that suffer.

Hey Kieran,
I can't do anything further on the car so we are really at the point now whether you would like to purchase it or not.
Thanks,
Who the F uck addresses a response to a customer with "Hey" and the "we really are at the point now whether you would like to purchase or not!" bit? He may as well typed "either buy the f ucking car or do one!"

The N62 valve stem seals are what worries me!!! Seem to be a load of them around that need it doing and I've heard it's not cheap!!!

I am driving a hard deal and to be fair he's been battered.
I told him from the off that I don't want the bollocks of pleasantries and fluffy dealer talk. I like to be treated the way I treat people and it works.
It's still on for Thursday on the ramps and I've told him 99% I'm having it..........

11k Rear window washers, leaking pipe

That's from BMW.
I wouldn't have another. Been the biggest disappointment since I bought a Saab 900 Turbo in 1988! Barry told me not to buy an e60/1. Did I listen? Did I ****!
drop me a line as I'm due a change soon

They are not that bad, the best SMG i have found is in the CSL or an E46 M3 SMG with the CSL software.Andyboy wrote:Disagreed. I bloody hate them. And I hope it doesn't either but if shit happens......
I could have it sooner but the Cattery business is extremely busy over the period so I pick it up when I'm off for a week... And a overnight roadtrip to Switzerland to celebrate!!

A few years ago, everyone was doom and gloom about the E39 M5 in terms of bills, now it seems less of a problem, or perceived to be less of a problem...
I wish you luck with it. Hopefully you don't need it.

I was going to say the same earlier in the thread. I was hearing the same from here when I was doing s62 swaps 10 years ago.Jon_Bmw wrote:A few years ago, everyone was doom and gloom about the E39 M5 in terms of bills, now it seems less of a problem

I've been following this to, nice one, I was struggling to decide what to spend £25k on, but then realised I didn't have £25k spend so spent £60 on a 10 year old scruffy Jap turd

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...
