FK High-Tec Suspension Kits

i asked this question a couple of months back and the general opinion was that they were of poor quality and an uncomfortable ride. i ended up buying bilsteins so i cant comment personally .

I remember Giles stating the FK coilovers for E30's were somewhat pony and still too soft for track

I'm not sure on their springs no one seem to use them on here, were all a bit caught up in H&R mania

but we're not on about using them for track are we? for road use, they will be more than firm enough.

and just coz every1 seems to jump on the h&r bandwagon, doesnt mean that everything else is pony...... it just means that every1 else is too concerned with being "cool" and with the "in" crowd to be different and choose whats best for them. IMO h&r springs (ala Karans GUG ) are way too low at the back. thats just my opinion, but sort of supports what i say - they wouldnt suit me..... hense why h&r wont appear on any of my charriots.

35mm r&r are fine, on the back and front

No one runs FK stuff that i know apart from giles and the only time he had used them and gave feedback was on track in the 318iS.

I was quite pleased to find someone other H&R offering suspension, both kits offer a 60/40 drop, FK's is Touring specific (i can only find a Cab listing for the H&R) and Ԛ£266 is an easier price to swallow than Ԛ£344!

I always thought FK were suppose to be good??!!

i'm sure Pi make springs for tourings also, on a 40mm drop. Dave(no)touring had them for his and never complained.

Your a bit limited for springs for tourings and like u say H&R ones are sily money at Ԛ£200 a set Saloon ones drop the arse on the floor. So it's a bit difficult.

they are the only 3 firms i can think off the top of my head who do springs for tourings. There may be more so phone them all! I bet spax will do some i expect

Mine handled fine with PI -40mm springs, maybe would have been even better with matched dampers.

Ԛ£100 or Ԛ£300 for a proper set I guess.

You will find other things which want changing if you start pulling the suspension apart, bushes etc.

I'm not just after lowering springs as i've got -40mm springs on now

Trouble is the rears are saloon springs and im not sure the front shocks are 100% healthy. I dont really like lowering onto standard shocks, hence why im after a matched shock/spring set thats got the 60/40 drop......limited choice!!

this is true-i've been looking recently at those kits for my 320i touring.

I may have to change the front struts if mine are 45mm ones, as the spax touring kit is 51mm.

for about the same money as a H&R cup kit 60/40 you can get a spax kit

55/40 with fully (28 settings )adjustable dampers...

some people hate spax stuff. i love it though. 51mm struts are reasonably easy to come by man. Ԛ£40 should have you a set in tidy shape, so the upgrade would be worthwhile IMO.

lol I'd checked that all out!got a few things I wanna do to her, and susp is one of them.

I'll need to see if I have the 51 or the 45 I dont know if its different for tourings...?

i was under the impression that all tourings made after sept 90 were 51mm.... or is that all tourings regardless of year...... i dont remember.

Ive never tested Fk stuff but I have tested alot of other suspension on my own car.

The H&R stuff is very popular because it gives very good handling and extremely good comfort aswell and this is very important to most people.

The cup kits perform very well on track and out do the Koni and spax kits by quite some way - and this is reports from people having used them in compairson.

The Saloon Cup kits do sit a little low - however this is not true for the Touring and Cabs where a real 40mm rear drop is achieved.

I will look into FK stuff - I know that supply is very bad though because people do end up waiting ages for it no matter where they buy it from.

Sal, all the pictures i've seen for the suspension kits show complete struts, is this how they come or do you get supplied with a replaceable insert?
