loose control... go head first into a wall,,, richochet of the wall and end up 180 reversed into a parked car....

all this two days after i sold my mk2 golf :( so now im left standing... waiting for buses...

my insurance is gonna boom, its already 1500 and it was only TPFT.

i know dan(318-is) is gonna go... "oh no! not another IS!"

but looking on the bright side.................. yeh thats right,,, there is no brightside... apart from im still alive.. and also thank fuck i wernt in a fiat!

Unlucky mate, when I wrote off my first car I was so gutted coz I loved it, even tho it was only an old mazda 323. Have had a few cars since but now I have my E30 I'd be uber gutted considerin the time and money gone into it. Just try to start thinkin towards the next project mate, one thats even better than the E30. May take a while to get given insurance issues etc but it will happen eventually.

Sorry to hear about your car mate, I know how you feel as I did the same about 10 years ago with a car I had owned for a month (on third party insurance).

If you do want to try to repair it (or start on another one) let me know and I will try to help you out with bits from the breaker i have bought.

The main thing is you can get out and walk away - glad you are okay - cars can be replaed or fixed - we take longer and are irreplaceable.

Good luck with insurance company - do you have to tell them? - will the parked car owner not do a deal for you to sort outside insurers - i am sure ther are people on here who could help you find a riendly bodyshop to assist if their car can be repaired. Alternatively, would they sell you their car so you can avoid insurance claims. Offer them auto trader price for theirs and they often soften to your predicament.

You may find it is easier and quicker to get the cash together than losing no claims and having a fault accident on your insuarance record for the next 5 years and all the premium increases this will attrcat for that time.

Anyway - you are okay - good luck with sorting it out.

i tried though also theres a 2000Ԛ£ brick wall to fix... and the car owner was being a right bitch,,,, some old lady who would not stop having a go... she assumed i had no insurnace.. and was like i bet u dont even have insurance blah blah blah,, just cos i was in my work clothes ie,, uniform and tracksuit over the top... keep me warm... she wouldnt stop whining,, then she assumed i could never afford it cos i looked like a bum.. right just told her to hurry up and die. a nasty piece of work...

but looking back on it,, i suppose the walll would have been the major dent in my pocket...

thanks for the support anyway

I'm very sorry to hear about this fella. So glad you're ok and you didn't injure anyone else - imagine how bad that would have felt. Shirley and other parts near Croyon are strange places for accidents - so many hills and descending water can lie on roads making them slippiery. There has been very little rain recently so dew is making the roads very greasy. It's also bloody cold which doesn't help grip.

My first and most important piece of advice is - you must go and get laid immediately. Women are fantastic creatures and (can be) more forgiving than cars. They smell nicer and, by their very nature, act to soothe the spirit of an injured hunter. They appreciate humility.

I did a comparable amount of damage to my own 325i touring. What was really awful about it was the way it happened. My mates own their own garage - and they are the best mechanics I've seen. I spent a whole Easter weekend in their workshop, using their stuff, getting free bits, distracting them from their own work, getting help. I changed water pump timing belt, alternator and starter motor. I had a charging problem with the alternator and in the end it was a simple fix but it was a ball breaker. The starter motor was a particular pain as they are not located in an easy position even when you have the luxury of working with ramps and air tools etc etc. Eventually we got it all done.

We went for a quick beer (not a good idea - not even one) at about 8.30 in the evening. I'd already got my mate in the dog house with his Mrs as he was staying late and he wouldn't even let me pay for the beer. We drove down the road and I was looking forward to giving the car some welly. Unfortunately I completely misread a junction and drove full throtlle (about 25-30 mph in 1st) into the back of his loan car. It was a peugeot 309 but after that it was more like a crab than a car.

I had carelessly ruined a very generously donated weekend which would have cost me hundreds of pounds of labour if I had been a punter. I'd also ruined his loan car and this had implications for his buisness. Fortunatley my mate is a saint and he felt as bad for me as I did.

I thought the car was going to be written off. In fact it turned out ok. I got the whole front of the car resprayed and it only cost me an excess of Ԛ£250. The car looked fantastic with fresh paint. I didn't lose all my no-claims-bonus and my insurance didn't go up. I'm in my 30s though and that does make a difference I suppose. I'm guessing you're younger since you mentioned you were at university before when we chatted. You're also learning a subject that you are sure to make money in. So a financial set back will be a temporary one, won't it? You'll soon be in a proper job with proper money, right?

I know it feels like life has bitten you but there are options here for you.
Forgive me for saying all this because I'm sure you know all this already but it may help to spell it out. You can turn this into something positive.

You can get your existing car repaired and it will have great new paint. You could even pay a bit more and get it totally resprayed. (Assuming it isn't a write off).

You could take some time off your job at MC in Bromley and break your car and get some money back for it. Not the nicest weather for that though.

You can buy another E30 cheaply that needs parts and use your car as a donor. You have nice alloys etc so this is all good. You'd have your own mini breakers yard so (thinking long term) running another 318is would be cheap and make fault diagnosis with swapping parts etc easier.

So wait and see what the insurance company says. They will want o keep you happy as you are a customer.

Good luck

thanks alot guys,,, especially toby, thats put everything to perspective,, as soon as i read this i went and had a look at the damage.. i think i may be breakinig it or selling it cheap, regain some money and look for what i was originally looking for,,, an e30 in black....

the welding has come apart by the turret on the passengers side... the wishbone is bent... passenger side.. tbh it will cost huge bill to repair... both wings damaged, some chassis damage im guessing... bonnet, the lot... so tbh,,, will prob break it and begin the hunt....

as for the women part... hmm excellent,, just so happens theres a party tonight,,,,

thanks again for the advice and support. its brightened what started off as a dark day. :)

wow this forum is rather supportive compared to others ive been on....

This really sucks mate i've been there my self with trees on christmas day in my old 318i :? not a nice feeling. Shame as it was a really straight rust free looking shell

Strip it out and see if there's any damage to inner wings and chassis legs. If she needs jigging i would contemplate stripping it, they never drive the same after. I hope for u it's just panels, which just all bolt in and out like the Mk 2 golfs so no probs there

Hope u sort it :D

Ԛ£500 atleast to repair providing the chassis is still straight

cars can be replaced, people cant! Dont worry about it at the end of the day it's a peice of metal I'm sure there will be something better waiting in the wings

I am really sorry to hear about this dude, ive seen your motor and it was sweet, but your ok and thats the main thing.
As others have said it might not be as bad as you think damage wise, i would deffo get some who knows there onions to have a look and if it dont need re-jigging then its worth saving.
If not then break it or find a donnor car to put all the good bits on.
What ever happens good luck with it and keep it E30 if you can, cant be losing any surrey/boxhill crew

skidpan training session... all i understand from that is skid

yeah i know i will try and keep it e30... i had a good luck under late afternoon, and around the damade,,, the front passenger side whel arche welding has come apart,, chassis is a tad damagd... the wall was a garden one so was low down... top of grill and under...

it will be drivable if wishbone is sorted,, as its crumpled back and the trye deflated on my arch...

ive got my mk3 polo 1.0 run about so im still mobile... but dont want to drive

ah well, i hope to get better things,, just waiting for insurance to settle,,, if they wont charge more immediatly,,, then i can probably get another iS, if they do,,, then i might have to go for a 320/318.... :( and yes i know simon,,, its no good,,, but i cant insure a 325 at all,,, there isnt a quote availible for me lol

and dont worry oguz, i wont leave the surrey crew.... though it does seem to be quite few of us...

im on the hunt!
