As it has a towbar the black box may well be the indicator box for the trailer electrics, hence all the scotchloks as well.

the thing next to the wheel arch liner is the headlight cover( rear of)

The hing with the red cable and connector looks like the sump oil level sender from the near side of the sump - under the distributor area. It must have one in there as you haven't said there's an oil leak.

IIRC, early stuff, like the 323i, had a simple level sensor with only one terminal in a round plug. The sensor in the pic. has a dynamic and static sensor, with what looks like a three pin plug.

Priced up all the rear repair panels at £200 so not too bad. Plan was to just do the lower valance area but the number plate light holes are rotten along with the valance so not alot more to replace both bits now and not have to do more in future.
Car is slowly being stripped to a rolling shell. Will clean up the underneith and underseal it all then get it sprayed up.
Not sure how to remove the spoiler though and if it will leave holes, along with the big dent on the top thats been filled poorly, might be due a replacement.
Going to stay origional colour with the side stripes put on again as they just look cool.
Will be on the lookout for a nice set of wheels too.

Spoiler held on by a number of plastic nuts accessible from inside of boot lid. 8mm socket size IIRC.

Bitumen based underseal is for hiding dubious metalwork from the MOT tester on inferior make bridge dodgers, and after a few years will begin to lift, trapping water behind it, and turning the whole underside into orange powder in a very short time.
