I wonder if anybody knows of the combination of gearbox and prop required to fit an e36 gearbox to a 325 engine.
The reason why is im after a direct 1.1 top gear ratio, i used a 318ti gearbox with an m42 engine previously but this gearbox fits at an angle when attached to the m20.
I can make it fit but wondered if there are any known alternatives? Thanks

If you do some searching for "G250" you will find a few threads on here about it, few of us have 1:1 E36 boxes behind M20s.

You have two choices, the small Getrag 250 (316i up to 320i) and ZF 310Z and 320Z (same box) on the 323i Touring and 328i. They're worthless (£50 tops) and have great ratios. The 250 is strong (fitted to virtually all E36 325i's) and the 320 just about unbreakable. You'd need a taller diff though, 3.07 ish.

The Getrag 250 on mine is actually great, only downside of the 250 is that it is a little easy to get into second, it's easier to "money shift" than the E30 boxes but hardly a failing of the box.

Just to note the 250 is on the saloon 323 and all 325. The touring 323 got the bigger ZF and all 328i and 3L M3.

The ZF is what people refer to as the 5 speed M3 box.
