So basically in February I took delivery of an m50 engine ready to begin my conversion... Thing is I never did a˜«a”« I lost all motivation with the 30 and worked on my other car instead.
As a result the engine has been sat on the same pallet it arrived on under some tarp ever since a˜•
I am now fully motivated again to carry out the work but just after knowing is it still going to be good for the conversion or have I killed it with negligence a˜

Thanks in advance a‘a

If it has manifolds on and the tarp is waterproof it should be fine. Turn the engine over by hand with a 22mm spanner on the crank pulley bolt.

Friend left an alpina 6 series lump outside for about 4 years with no issues, under a tarp and sheltered with a sump full of oil.

Cheers guys. It does have both inlet and outlet manifolds on it yeah.. My only real concern is that the oil was dropped for delivery or will that have no affect as long as water can't get in
Thanks again.

make sure you pull the spark plugs, easier to turn over.

and squirt some light oil into each bore, then let it stand for a couple of minutes before turning over by hand.
+1, good point willnz

But do remember to put the plugs back in. I have not known an engine that does not collect water in the bores when left with the plugs out.

It's like you toast always landing jam side down. I think if you left an engine on the moon with the plugs out you would still come back to find water in the bores. :x

Haha could have been to the moon and back the time it's been sat there !

Big thanks for all the help guys really appreciated a‘a I'll go give it a bash after my dinner.

Another thing totally off topic but is the 320 prop the same length as the 325 ? I'm using a 318is box for my conversion and the wiki says use 325 propshaft. Just wondering if I can get away with using the one I already have before I go buying a propshaft I don't need ?

Thanks again people a˜a

E30 320i and 325i manual propshafts are a different length. The 325i uses a stronger and longer gearbox than the 320i.

So use a 325 prop to use my 318is gearbox ?

Anyways I got the engine to turn a˜ƒ Only thing was there was a load of rusty gunck on 2 of the rubber ends of the coils and stagnant water sat in the barrels where the plugs sit a˜• Anything to worry about with that ?

320 and 318is boxes are the same with a different bell housing pattern.
