So I was having starting issues and sent the car in...they did a diagnostic test which did not flag up anything. They checked the ignition coil and said it needed replacing...

I collected the car yesterday and it started on the button.

I got in this morning and it would not fire into action??? But I also noticed that the temperature gauge shot up past the "blue" straight away...which is very odd...

I am able to push start it...it fires up with just a little push...

Any ideas? Help? Advise?

I will take the car back on monday morning but want to be able to tell the guys what to look for / check if possible.

Thanks in advance!!!

Connect a 12 volt bulb between the coil + terminal and the earth point on top of the RH suspension turret, and check that it stays lit when you engage the starter. (When the car is acting up.)

Thanks Brian...if it does not stay lit what does that mean? If it does stay lit what does that mean?

Can the temperature gauge issue be related...? I am just a bit concerned as when i handed the car in I had one problem and it has been returned with 2 problems...this is a new maechanic to me so I do not want him taking the mick!

Thanks again!

So the car has been in with mechanics all week...just my luck every time they tried to start it it fired into action!!!! so not much can be done if it is not playing up!!! Very frustrating!!

They are however stumped by the temperature gauge issue...so any help would be appreciated. The diagnostics are not reporting any faults at all. However the temp gauge shoots just past the blue regardless wether the car has been sitting all night...

Thanks in advance :D

Temperature gauge issue is easy to diagnose if they know what they're doing.
First disconnect the gauge wiring at the C101, and see what effect that has. If the gauge then behaves itself, it's an engine loom/sensor issue. If it still acts up, then the gauge wire needs to be disconnected near the cluster, to see if that cures it.
My guess is that it's the common brass nut on the back of the cluster issue.
