Had a great day at Oulton last Tuesday, one of the best days I've had for years!
Having a problem with hot judder on the brakes now though, due to pad deposits it seems so I need to find some harder/more abrasive pads, there seems to be hardly any suppliers of performance pads advertising on the net in the UK, really struggling to find something off the shelf

Some pics of the discs, you can see the horrible almost smear of pad deposits, feels sticky to touch and is clearly raised off the surface of the disc, must have been considerably reducing the performance of the brakes!

And here is a web pic of what deposits look like when hot

Ive read lots saying the discs need to be ground to get rid of this, but I thought I would improvise for now, I had a go at it with some scotch brite and it shifted, so removed the discs and hit them with a red scotch wheel in the drill, looks loads better and feels like a brake disc again

Now to find some high temp pads, EBC yellows are available and I will probably end up using them if I can't find anything else in the mean time.
In other departments I found the near side front tyre was catching slightly

A few clicks to stiffen the damper up will have to do for now as I will be using the car again in just under a fortnight, hasn't damaged the tyre much, just a slight graze

Also the diff bolts like to unwind themselves, so will be going back in with some thread lock next time

Dan, the Yellows do like to crumble a bit, especially once over half worn.
I have found them pretty consistent and reasonable value for money on the 205. With Castrol SRF and standard (read small) OEM brakes on the 205, they don't fade. The car only weighs 830kg but has 195bhp to offset it. Basically a similar power to weight to yours I would think (perhaps mine is slightly less?)?
If they are half the price of alternative big brands they are worth a go. If they are 75% of the cost or more I would go with something else...

Well I can buy yellows for about £140, I've seen PFC pads at more than double, from the very few I can find on the net, waiting for BG to get back with some prices on others but I'm tempted to give these a try - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cayenne-955-9 ... rCafakEXBA
They do have Brembo written on them at least!

What model Porsche are your calipers from?
I'm using CL Brakes RC5+ and find them great on track. Temperature stable, easy on the discs, lower dust than Ferodos and decent stopping power.

Does that brace you have mean that the diff is bolted solidly to the shell? Is the vibration tolerable? I remember trying the Condor Speedshop gearbox mounts which have no isolation from 'box to shell and I thought it was pretty bad. Also, does the subframe still 'move about' as intended?

The callipers are fitted to Porsche Cayenne, VW Touareg, Audi Q7 cars
Yes its solid to the shell, doesn't feel any worse than before TBH, movement of the subframe is obviously massively reduced because of this, but it doesn't need to move much anyway, the bushes I fitted are 90sh from what I remember

There are a couple of caliper options for the Cayenne.
CL Brakes
Cayenne
4152 RC6E Compound only (Endurance racing) £378 ouch
4081 RC5+ £243, RC6 £270, RC6+ £341
RC5+0.40 mu
developed for light weight vehicles or racing in low grip conditions (street tires, gravel, mud, snow, water, etc.). An excellent track day compound, it offers moderate friction levels, low noise, is easy on OEM discs, and has excellent cold stopping power.
RC6 0.50mu
designed to apply to a wide range of motorsports, from rally to circuit. It has a high and very flat friction level. Low compressibility provides a stiff pedal which greatly increases feedback and allows for easier modulation.
RC6E 0.46mu
designed to offer very low pad and disc wear rates without sacrificing friction levels. The RC6E boasts the same easy bed-in and stable friction levels as all other CL Brakes compounds.
Not cheap, but good. I ran all day at Croft in July with RC5+ and suffered no fade or pad transfer. Surprisingly clean too.

Are there crush tubes in your brace? If not that'll most definitely be the reason the diff bolts are coming undone.

Those RC5 look perfect Steve, BG told me I need to keep to a light track biased pad due to the huge size of it and the weight of my car, but I'm guessing mine are the 4152 fitment, but looking through the image page I cross referenced a pad that looked similar and this page popped up on google http://www.murraymotorsport.com/product ... brake-pads
Will be calling them in the morning! All fingers and toes are crossed
allenallen if you go back to page 7 you will see the drop tubes, as Mikey says the mig welder will be holding them in from now on with a reasonably sized tack weld
Yes mate I will be at Oulton on Friday, will you be calling in?

Ive had one option come through today, DS2500 at £250 but they may not get here in time. The Irish CL brakes dealers couldn't get anything in my fitment, I even phoned the Porsche Shop today and they gave me a right laugh, £300 for EBC yellows! I don't think so”¦
So the ATE's have gone back in for now and I plan on getting some pad bedding/burnishing sessions in before Friday, I've convinced myself the huge pad deposits came about because of the wet day at Dony, as it was the first time the brakes got properly hot and because the ABS was working lots that day there was plenty of hot stationary pad/disk action which is when the deposits happen, hopefully I can get some better performance out of them when bedded in correctly
Cheers Steve, I did get the email today too, see you there

Go for 2 cool down laps without using the brakes and when you bring the car to a stop, use the gears to bring it down to walking pace and stop it on the handbrake.
It is the periods of stationary hot disc against pad that causes the transfer.

Dan,
Nice to meet you on Friday. I will check through my video footage for your car, I think I have something.

Would be good to see, thanks. Excellent car BTW, best S14 I've sat behind
Ive spoken to the Mintex guys and they are going to find out if they can press some of their material onto some backing plates to fit my callipers
Hopefully they can and I can get some more track days in before the weather turns
