Last update on this.

The Ronals failed to arrive and the paypal dispute is on-going. Sadly zero comms from the company in Germany I bought them from. So i couldn't resist these Azevs , 16" with almost new tyres on them.

Last job was to get the wheels check balanced and the tracking done, glad I did as it was all miles out.

Standard ride height, standard steering, standard engine and it drives SUPERB !!!

Also changed the rear top mounts and fitted the 6 button OBC.

Chuffed to bits with it

Next project arrives in a few weeks

Seems my excitement was short lived. The vibration through the steering wheel on the way home was horrendous. Literally it shacked the car to bits when I hit 50. Very odd as the wheels were just balanced. I’ll take it back in the morning. Anyone else had problems with excessive vibration after having the wheels balanced?

Visually the wheels and tyres all look perfect. Nothing odd at all.

Could be one of the wheels are buckled??

The wheels visually all look perfect, as good as you can tell by the naked eye and they were balanced up at a decent tyre place. Tyre city in Guildford, I've used them before.

I watched the guy torque them up and it has the right spigot rings fitted also.

I'll be going back tomorrow morning.

It really was pretty bad.

Impossible to say at the moment Mick, Visually they all look absolutly perfect, brand new infact, not even dusty inside.

They have budget tyres fitted though from China, almost new though....

Hope they can re-balance them tomorrow.

Thanks for the update there ;)

Wheels were re-balanced this morning but still excessive vibration, although a bit less than before.

Going to try some different spigot rings.

P.S...... Different = the right size this time

If that fails then some Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres. Really good tyres for the money at only about £55 each.

Decent wire brushing of hub faces / back of wheel makes a difference too if corroded.....

Any flat spots or heavy edge wear on the tyres?

Is there weights everywhere (scattered in more than one place?

Was a tyre tech once....

Thanks for the advice there.

2 of the wheels have 80g of balancing weights in a strip on them.

The other 2 have just 20g

So i cleaned up the faces and put the wheels with the most weights at the rear.

The tryres all look absolutley perfect, very cheap brand though.

Took it for a drive and it's miles better now,, almost perfect really.

I think the lolly pop bushes could do with changing so i'll do this (with e36 m3 eccentric bushes) and put some good quality tyres on and i think it should be just perfect.

Thanks for the tips :)

I'd forgotten what a peppy little lump the M40 atually is. Up to 60 it pulls very nice and has some useful low down torque. Above 60 it's like a wet fart though. Not a bad engine at all and almost just right for popping about in traffic to work and back.

Next jobs are:

1. Injector clean
2. Fit stock setting AFM - Mine has been "adjusted" and i'm convinced it's too lean when cold as it almost stalls when opening the throttle after a cold start
3. lolly pops
4. Fit beige comfort interior

Thanks mate, i've wanted one for ages. Ideally I'd love a mint comfort beige leather interior but this was too good to miss.

The shelf has speaker holes sadly so on the look out for uncut shelf or might get some period speakers to fill the gaps.

There is a small section of piping missing on the drivers seat, so keeping an eye out for a replacement also.

Other than that and a small mark on the drivers base, the rest of it is spotless.

I did scrub the whole lot to death with carpet cleaner though.

A couple of these temp sensors arrived from the US. They work really well.

Image

And fitted a proper radio, so much better than the cheapo modern thing in before.

Sound quality is pretty good also

Image

Ordered a little box to wire in so the sub will still work also

Loving driving it about daily, the M40 zipps along very nicely.

Image

A set of SE skirts came in the post and it really needs a replacement spoiler, maybe Father Christmas will bring a tech 1 example.....

Have you got a link to the OBC temp sensor as I could do with getting one?

Are you still waiting on the Ronals?

Found this for sale fairly local.

Had to buy the entire interior though, but gave all the rest to a mate who needed it so happy days.

Image

It's blotchy as it's still wet from the deep clean but it's mint, 100% mint.

and this is also getting fitted asap

Bad news....The Blaupunkt '48 died in a cloud of smoke.... it's in the radio repair shop at the moment, but I’m not confident to be honest.

Decided to fit one of these Apline units. Not strictly period but I’ve always liked them.

Kit came with the iPod control unit and cable, so the iPod can be operated from the head unit controls. Just a shame I don't have an iPod....yet !

The angle feature is nice in the e30 bringing the screen a little closer and angled up slightly. But the sound quality when hooked up to a 4 channel amp is absolutely amazing. I loved the Blaupunkt but the Alpine SQ is a different world.

The rear shelf had two horrendous holes but Boomerm20 on here sorted me out with a couple of these premium speakers. I had to mount the "fore and aft" as it was the only way to cover the holes in the shelf fully. They are the original speakers and actually sound pretty good.

Image

Image

Image

Few bits left to do on the sound system, ideally I'd like to add in a 3342 equaliser, but next up is to refresh the inlet system.

Injectors back from injector tune with some new pipes and gaskets.

Ronals currently on the tech1 until i can be bothered to build up the split rimzzz for it, then i can move them onto this. The AZEVs are destined for the black 318iS tech 2 look-a-like.

I've tried to get these fixed before, and the problem is you can't source the parts anymore unless you've got a donor unit. So if a part's broken it's usually RIP.

If something just needs adjusting or refitting, then there's still hope.
