lovely looking car! if you go for new grilles, can i recommend gtechniq C4. i put in on once when i first cleaned the grilles and also the new side strips on my car and they look OEM satin to this day with no need to apply any stuff to make them look original and clean.

I used C4, doesn't last anywhere near as long as they claim, over priced for what it does.

Great work Barry - as usual from you.
However, I'm interested to read that you propose using this as your daily? It suggests you're placing more value in your sport (I know that was a labour of love for you and the car won't be sold etc) but the amount of detailed work you are putting into restoring this will surely make it worth more than the sport?
Just interested to hear your thinking on this? Also, does an M3 make for a practical daily?
*I would be inclined to stable both and use them occasionally.

I've had it last for over 2 years on the tourings wing mirror. Wolfs chemicals do a similar product for less ££ and I'll be giving that a try soonDemlotcrew wrote:I used C4, doesn't last anywhere near as long as they claim, over priced for what it does.

I used it on the diesel scuttle cover and didn't even last two months
Its very impressive when you first put it on, but for the money it should be three times the size!!!
Just need to work out in what other industry its used and buy it by the litre.
Any links to the Wolfs?

Thanks Steve! I see what Demlot means by the cost verses size of bottle!
However, isn't this doing the same thing as the "peanut butter" solution? After bringing things back to black, one can make a sandwich....!

I think the plan is to do a full resto on the m3 in due course so why not enjoy it before hand
That's my guess

This is about the 3rd or 4th time you have made responses to my comments and it's the 3rd or 4th time you have been wrong...!DanThe wrote:There are a lot easier ways of earning a few quid gert, your obviously not a car person
Besides, do you want to let Barry answer for himself, or shall we continue to second guess the man?

With regards to daily use of this vs the sport, the sport is a lowish mileage very tidy car which has been garaged all its life and only used in the summer months for the last 7 years so the aim is to keep it as nice as possible and with lowish mileage.
The M3 on the other hand is rough round the edges and really in need to a full on resto. As said at the start of this thread that will happen but not just yet as I have other priorities right and I also would like to use it before diving into a full on resto but to make it usuable it's required some work.
It's not low mileage (176k) so by putting miles on its not exactly going to devalue it.
I did consider selling a couple of months back but I've changed my mind.
As for being a practical daily? Well it starts first time, had a radio and a heater, a light clutch and power steering so it's fine by me. My commute is about 8 miles so fuel economy is not a sticking point and even so it's better than my old E46 M3 on petrol and I used that daily and with a longer commute.
Tbh, it's a petty epic daily as my commute is through the ashdown Forrest along Fast B roads, it's prime hunting ground!

An M3 is an inspirational tool at high speed and on challenging roads/track.Gert_8 wrote: Just interested to hear your thinking on this? Also, does an M3 make for a practical daily?
As an every day car it is remarkably hum drum. With a cloth interior, passengers don't even realise that the car is anything at all. 4 cylinder engine, seats 5, stock suspension is pretty pliable. To be honest driving around town it is a complete non-event. Apart from the knowing looks and appreciation from the few who know what it is. Never mind using it as a daily - your mother-in-law could use it as a daily and apart from being LHD, and having been 'pimped' with a big spoiler, she would think that its just an old car.
i have used it on the grille, and exterior trim plastics and it is still going strong after 1 year, so good value for me. it is great just washing the grille with just a foam and car shampoo, rinsing and drying without having to remove old gunk and reapply new gunk. can't think why it didn't work on the scuttle.....if you find a cheap price for a litre, do let me know ;)Demlotcrew wrote:I used C4, doesn't last anywhere near as long as they claim, over priced for what it does.

You did well to find the houndstooth LS Recaros - they look so 'right' in a white M3
Yes Tony they were a lucky find!
The "old bird" (as in it flys) as the previous owner used to call it, failed to start earlier this week. It was cranking over fine and i could hear the fuel pump buzzing away which meant that the fuel pump relay and most likely the DME relay were working fine.
A quick check revealed no spark and i knew the cap and arm were fine so a quick wiggle of the engine speed sensor wires and it briefly fired.

Two new genuine sensors ordered up, fitted them today and fired straight up.
Normal service has been resumed!
