after a mate of mine had no joy starting his m20b25 conversion into an m40 car i found out that he had the older 1.1 motronic set up and the wires on the c101 plug looked all over the place with not many lining up .

sooo i've supplied full plug and play facelift 1.3 motronic upgrade , my question is does the c101 plug just plug straight in and work ?

i hope so :?

if it is worst case scenario and we have the red/yellow wire and brown wire present what needs to be done ?

just snip a wire or move a pin ?

Cut the brown wire away from pin 20 on the body loom side and insulate the end of it.

The red/yellow on the car body side is the control supply for the ABS, and fortunately your engine loom has the matching feed for it. All good there, and saves further threads entitled "why is my ABS light on after engine swap?"
The lack of cylinder ID sensor won't be anything to do with the problem. The engine will run fine without it, but it'll run slightly better on part throttle with it fitted.
Have you checked the condition of the wires in the plug and socket under the inlet manifold, where the injector loom connects to the rest of the engine loom? It's the wires under the lower half's rubber boot that you should be looking at.

the motronic 1.3 set is all used tested parts from differet running cars but all facelift .

the cars plugs are getting soaking apparently and it flooding itself out while running ??

when running it's tick over pulses up and down .

video of it running if the link works :?

i've sourced a pulse lead attatched to ht lead 6 and i told him to order a blue temp sensor from BMW .

Do not order, fit or disturb any parts until you have done this.

problems :(

the burnt wire is from the oil level sensor , the car itself never had a check panel .

Question .... is the oil level sender plug on the engine loom or on the cars main loom like the coolant and washer bottle plugs on an se 6-pot type car ?

trying to work out why it's melted so it won't do it again .

another thing is the facelift engine loom has 3 connectors to the starter and the pre facelift starter only has two connections so the lad has swapped the solenoid over to accept the other two wires , it works some times and jams other times and you have to rock the car to get it to engage .... it's a nice car and worth the effort to put right .

bloody nightmare this young lad is having , it's got his life

It is a bad bit of design on BMW's part to use an oil level sensor that both earths through its body to the engine sump, and also has an earth wire that connects to the earthing point on top of the RH front suspension turret. In the event of the main engine to body earth strap being faulty (or forgotten??), this little wire attempts to substitute for the strap, and fails miserably when the starter motor is operated.

Maybe he meant they were on the bench?

The only thing that would cause this damage, other than a non connecting earth strap. Is a poor electrical connection between the alloy engine mount and the iron engine block, caused by electrolytic corrosion.
Never seen it between a mount and block, but I have come across it between an alternator and its mount.
