Radiator Blind

My 318is takes ages to warm up in this weather. In fact it doesn't on my short (<7 miles) journey to work. Result - appaling fuel consumption. So does anyone know if there was or is a radiator blind for the E30.

Yeah - I know I can use a plastic bin liner but it doesn't look very cool

I would have thought it would warm up on a journey of that length, maybe the stat is stuck open causing it to stay cold for so long !

Same problem as mine.
I am going to change the stat because on checking today i found everything is getting warm apart from the one hose going to the stat housing.
Check yours,could be the same problem.

I am pretty sure that the thermostat is fine as it gets up to normal temperature on a slightly longer trip and is stable. If the thermostat were stuck open it would NEVER get up to temperature - mine just takes longer than it should....

mine also gets upto temp(eventually) but heater on tickover is crap,give it a few revs and it goes warm for a minute then goes shite again!

Still worth you checking that hose against the others when its warm to see if it is hot/cold.

My iS only takes a few minutes to warm up, approx 3 miles and it's blowing nice warm air on my feet. Check your thermostat.....

How old is your water pump? the impeller could be loose.

If the thermostat is broken it would warm up and would hold a stable temprature as the fan would regulate the temp. It would just take ages to get up to temp.

MY 318i also takes ages to warm up in this weather, i changed the stat and that made no difference.
So i cut a strip of clear acitate (plastic) to go from head light to head light, (the same hight as the head light) and held it on with clear cable ties, and now i get hot air from the heater in about 2 miles and it sits just under half on the gauge on longer trips.
As long as i keep it clean its almost invisible as you can see the grill behind it.
