Hi guys
iv been having some issues with the accelerator pedal on my m40 316i, when you rev the car its fine but when it comes back to idle it will idle very high because it gets stuck iv changed the cable but it still has the same problem i then took the spring off the pedal and noticed that something is stopping it from coming all the way back up, could it be the cir clip and the plastic grommets holding it back ?

Hello Mani, had a similar problem once on my 318i, it was a sticky flap on my afm, fixed it with a clean and a bit of emery paper on a high spot that the flap was catching when coated in crap.

Its possibly as you first though, it will be somewhere in the peddle area, it seems you have crossed off most other possibilities, link below to diagram, check joints, pivot points, something catching on carpet, bushes ect.

Did you change the cable for a new one ? If not then you need to make sure its properly lubricated. Also make sure the cable is routed correctly with the minimum of bends in it and make sure its not pinched anywhere.
