My car is a tec 2 Sport, and one of the things that annoys me the most about it is the fact that it revs so high on the motorway. I presume I have a 3.91 diff and combined with the sport box (Where 5th is the same as fourth on a normal 325i box) it seems to rev its tits off at anything over the legal limit. Luckily I hardly do any miles in it, but does this annoy anyone else? Rant over, phew, feel better already.

Nope i think it's fine, fit a 3.64lsd then. But i feel it takes the edge of acceleration for the gain of a more relaxed cruise on the m-way
3.91 70 in 5th= 3k RPM
3.64 70 in 5th= 2.5RPM
is it really worth it!

I think you'll find on rhe sport box it's only 1-2-3 that are different ratios to the normal box. 4th and 5th are the same ratio, particularly 5th which is just a 1:1 ratio.
I think, I'm 99% sure, although now I have said that I'll be wront!

Ollie said what u just said!
nope 5th is an over drive gear, i don't think 4th is direct either.
Only dog leg boxes have direct 1:1 on 5th

4th gear on a sport box is the same as a normal box = 1:1
5th gear is 0.81:1
If your doing alot of motorway driving get a longer diff as Simon says.
3.64 LSD is very good, it does slightly take the edge off the acceleration but not by alot.

I'm pretty sure my haynes manual lists fifth gear as straight through for the sport box, same as fourth in the normal box. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

Thing is I don't do hardly any driving in the thing so I don't know why I'm whingeing in the first place. Just a grumpy fucker today. I can't recall what it does at 70mph but I know it revs at exactly 4k when I'm doing an indicated 90mph.

Sport box has 0.81:1 5th gear - look in your manual.
90mph and 4000rpm is defo 3.91 ratio.

haynes manuals are full of shit period.
To me if u hardly drive the sport and even less on the m-way why are u moaning about it?!
If u hardly drive it surely u want it to be a quick blast machine, not some bogged down m-way cruiser!
I've never noticed the problem really that people moan about. It might have something to do with your scorpion exhaust which is probably making a hell of a racket 70mph making it seem worse. just my 2p on this
