Well, hopefully.

My mechanic friend has done the following:
Fitted new oil pump
Fitted new main bearings
Fitted new big end bearings
Fitted new pressure release valve
Fitted new engine mount (old one was well knackered!)
Cleaned the rail at the top out (cant remember what its called)
Adjusted the tappets
Oil and filter change
And removed the bits of old crank from the sump (previous owner had crank work done but most of the old broken one was still in the sump)

So, it should be nicer to drive.

Not sure what hes going to charge me for labour but I supplied the parts and they cost over Ԛ£300.

Just need my other E30 to fetch a good price on ebay to pay for it now!

He wouldnt charge me for work not done, hes a top bloke and relys on word of mouth for cars to work on.

What a load of $hit, if u changed your exhaust manifold and it stoped the noise take a wild guess that the loud ticking sound u had was a blowing
exhaust manifold, Tappets on M20's are not self adjusting.

Alright, So I was wrong.....Ive never had the tappets done on any of my E30's and thats 7 all in! All around the 100k mark, so I thought they adjusted themselves.

Jon

Read, re-read and read the thread again! I thought they were self adjusting so obviously I thought the guys mechanic was pulling one! Then people put up AFTER my post that they are not self adjusting, did I say anything after that??? I dont think so.

I didnt try and stir anyones shit :?

From some comments of lately, I guess my views and comments are unwelcome. So to put everyones mind at rest, I will just stick to the pub section! Cant go wrong there winkeye

He probably adjusted the valve clearences, this can shut the M20 up.

On the M20, tapping is caused by wrong valve clearences, worn cam, noisy injectors, and leaking exhaust manifold, leaking exhaust manifold is normally louder when cold, and gets quiter as the engine warms up.

listen.you can put my feckin name at the top of the post with neon lights on it.you stirred the shit...............period
you for some mad reason decided due to the fact that you have owned 7 e30s,to inform the guy his tappets were self adjusting
it was then written that they werent and in the mean time you have then accused his mechanic for billing for something he hasnt done and then went on to say that you were still pretty sure they were self adjusting

now.Iam no brain surgeon but that is stirring shit
so STEVE look down the posts again and see where you said they were, then other people said they werent and you yet AGAIN said they were and tell me you didnt say anything after you were told.
so you go and read read read the post again.

oh and as far as pub talk is concerned looking at the "stalker" chip 3 door thread i wouldnt count your chickens!!!
