Noticed today that the water isnt circulating well and think the thermostat is knackered.

Two questions-

1,Should i go to the dealers for one or will GSF quality(Ԛ£8.75+VAT)be ok?

2, Anything i should look out for or take caution too while im doing it?

Hints/tips welcome :)

dealers is more expensive but a safer bet (i swear bout 32 quid?)

the only thing i remember is DO NOT over torque the housing bolts; 9 newton-metres of torque iirc. Also new a gasket but that common sense

cheers Dan.

Do these said bolts have tendencies to snapping when taking them out?

Didnt you have a thermostat for sale a while ago?
Still got it?

>Open the radiator drain and take out ~2-3 litres of fluid.
>Disconnect the 2 hoses from the radiator. Check their condition.
>Four 10mm hex bolts hold the thermostat housing in (they are shorter than the water pump bolts). The thermostat may stay in the head and can be popped out with a screwdriver.
>Install the new one with the spring towards the head (the recess faces with the o-ring).
>Locate the gasket on the housing using the bolts.
>No not over torque the bolts (7ftlbs/9Nm).
>Refill and bleed the system.
>1 week later, check the torque of the bolts

Thats the best description i can find mate. Not sure why torque settings are so low though

Are you sure the impeler has not fallen off the water pump ?
Some are made of plastic and just fall off the shaft so the pully turns but nothing is happening inside.
I think if the thermostat was buggerd the engine would overheat :?

When you say the coolant is not circulating do you mean it's not flowing back into the expansion tank when you look inside with the filler cap off or the hoses are not getting hot ?
There is NO nucleus.
