Ive just got my first E30 ! A 318is in diamantschwarz metallic. First thing Ive done is strip out the interior to get at any rust I suspected could be lurking under the carpets.
I was faily happy with what i found, however work still needs to be done to prevent spreading”¦

Looks like some one has jacked it up wrong and bent the floor pan.

This is the worst part in the boot where it has completely rotted through and been badly covered up. This has spread from the rear valance which will require welding.

Water getting in through the grommet maybe ?

Water is getting in through here and soaking the carpet foam. It also seems to be leaving salt crystals around the edges ? (not good). :?
Looks like someone has tryed to seal it up before.
Does anyone have experaince with treating and re-sealing this, as well as sorting out any of the issues above ???

I am a complete novice to all of this help and advise would be really useful before I start going at it.
Cheers

If that's all there is then you are very lucky!!!! Most cars are worse than that....all looks fairly easy to sort just be methodical and do it right..
1. Remove rust/paint back to good metal
2.treat area with ku rust or something similar
3.reprotect area with primer and topcoat
4.the rear footwell floor bungs need to be removed then sort out any rust etc, then either renovate or replace floor bungs and use seam sealer and paint to stop it happening again.
5.the crease in the floor should be able to be dressed out with a couple of blocks of wood and a big hammer.

I agree everything JCM said, it looks very light on rust under there. Good find. A word of caution about the buckled floor: yes it could be something simple like poor use of a trolley jack or axle stand but it might, just might, be the result of a front end bump. I've seen similar with the 'risen' floorpan on two E30s. Next time you're underneath look to see if there's been any front end repairs - chassis and body - of a serious enough nature to have caused this. If not, then the mis-placed trolley jack gets my vote. Sorry to sound gloomy but it's definitely worth checking out. Also look carefully at the seat mounting runners. If the floor is buckled then so will be the runners. All the best.
