I've recently replaced the worn linkage parts and fitted a z3 1.9 short shifter. This was done as per the zone write up below;
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... conversion
Normally the ball of the shifter (6) locks into the plastic socket (7) which in turn locates it in the support arm (1). From the picture you've shown it looks that the shifter would grip directly into the support arm with the O-rings. Besides that it should be as the write up.

I fitted one of these. It took all the slack out of the shift and really shortened the travel.
The only down side is a slightly notchy shift.

Iirc you have to remove bush no 7 in the above diagram, the blue bit fits in where the bush went and there is a circlip which fits on the bottom of the blue bit.
My car has a 6 speed gearbox but I think the principle is the same.
It was quite easy to do.

Sweet! How did it fit? Because the blue part doesn't look like it should be there? Did it need modifying or anything?KW355 wrote:I fitted one of these. It took all the slack out of the shift and really shortened the travel.

I've fitted one of these to mine, no mods necessary, blue bit is fine, it's easy when its in front of you.
