Hi,

I am looking to get a chip for my 1988 325i Manual cab and I enquired but my ECU is coded 164. I have had a look around and most places tell me this is for an auto and mine is a manual so am confused.

I have been told that I can swap it out for a 173 but wanted to check I haven't got some anomily that it wouldn't work.

Anyone offer any help?

If your changing the chip I don't think it will matter that it's an auto ECU to begin with, but if you were keeping it standard then I would change the ECU for a manual car for better tick over at idle as there is a difference between the two ECU mappings
