Track day coming up for me and I'm having the brake fluid changed, some ferrodo DS2500.

What about Brake discs?

Some track day guys have come back saying that ATE discs get cooked easily and can crack.

Brembo do a set for E30's which are vented at only Ԛ£41.

Is there any real need to go for the cross drilled/grooved type discs?

The reason I ask this is because even cars like the E39 M5's, E36 M3's etc etc use just vented discs and they have huge stopping power.

Opinions?

Dont go for drilled disks for track use (apart from the ones off the big brembo 4 pot kits etc) Aparently they crack easier.

Drilled discs now crossed off list

Grooved almost dont seem to be worth it at all over normal discs so Brembo's it is then I think. Not too expensive either.

I think these should work very well with the DS2500 pads (bloody expensive though!)

a lot of race cars dont use them, infact they are banned from a lot of racers

they are only good in when your brakes produce so much more heat the gases need to escape, now these days brake design has moved on, along with materials used and on a track day care they are pointless

cross drilling weekens the disks and this is a contributing factor to them cracking

they only look good

I think Zimmerman makes the OE disks. Id go for the brembo or AP versions purely on there reputation with the big brake kits
