After replacing the sump* on my 318i I realised just how low the sump on the e30s are!
Now, I'm not planning on crashing in to any more curbs but to be on the safe side I'd like to fit sump guard, esp as I'm gonna be lowering the car soon.
Anybody got any info ?
* And the lower arm... and the offside engine mount...

Make me one too????
due compensation is available.
I'm thinking 6mm aluminium to really bounce over those curbs... lol, lower arms and track rods are easier to find than sumps and engine mounts. FWIW, if you change the oil and filter, run the car around for an hour or two and then explode the sump, when you get new oil in there I can tell you it stays damn clean!
If there's any way I can help I'd be more than happy. Not that I'm any good at metal work else I'd make my own

I made one for my 318i cos i split the lower sump on the way to work one morning over a hump in the road at about 90ish didnt seem like a hump at 60, got it welded destroyed it on christmas day and broke off the pickup pipe and bent the dipstick tube and broke a section off the upper sump. so i made a gaurd from 3mm sheet steel and made two steel gussets which run along each side it is bolted on using the steering rack bolts and is also bolted to the furthest forward crossmember. now i attack speed bumps with renewed vigour.

Are these universal or do the m20 engined cars have a different one?
Like Hoshy says, the sumps sit low, and if the car is dropped it's even lower. Might be tempted to get one on my 325.........

Please make the piccy's work some one
I have a bit of 4 mm ali checker plate I might make one out of will just need an oil change hole cutting. What sort of clearance between the sump and the guard is wise??
