Well the house build is coming on well! It's fuel for getting a move on and one day being able to build a workshop, then the fun can begin!

Currently toying with the idea of moving down a ladder/spaceframe design for it (been reading too much Staniforth, among others). The fabrication that has been undertaken has been interesting and also a learning curve, however with all things of this nature, there are floors, compromises and things that I'm not happy with. This opens up a whole world of other issues etc such as chopping up a mint e30 shell, I believe that these have gone up in value a little since i last checked in to the world of E30zone? I'm very much looking forward to the engineering exercise and continuing with the RnD with the project which is something I can do whilst I haven't got a workshop!

Will playing with string computers and other web based software for calculating suspension geometry in the near future, current thoughts are:-

Hybrid ladder/space frame chassis using the custom cages cage i have, with E30 shell over the top of it. Composite panels bonnet, wings, possibly roof, tailgate. (Might be on the look out for a shell with a rotten floor pan. The key with this is torsional rigidity, keeping the suspension pick-up points where they're intended to be!

Front and rear girdles holding up unequal length wishbones. Will be shooting for a 1.5-1.6 wheelbase to track ratio but inevitably it will be down to driveshaft selection (thinking 7 series). I'm keen to get roll center positioned as suitable to the cars COG as possible and not end up with a car that is prone to under steer.

Continuing with the 1UZFE (ive now got water cutting templates for Getrag boxes, which will make the manual conversion cheaper and allow use of the BMW Prop (shortened) and diff). This is to be mounted behind the line of the front axle. I think the key with the engine is to get the thing running first then look at chasing a bit more power out of it if and when necessary.

Thanks for reading
Mark
